Tinubu Nominates New Federal Character Commissioner For Abia State

President Bola Tinubu has forwarded the name Victor Ikeji to the Senate for confirmation as the new Federal Character Commission (FCC) commissioner representing Abia State, replacing outgoing commissioner Obinna Oriaku.

In a letter read during Thursday’s Senate plenary, Tinubu cited Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the basis for the replacement. The request was referred to the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Relations, with a directive to report back within one week.

Analysts view the reshuffle as part of the administration’s broader effort to refresh federal appointments across key agencies, following the recent re-appointment of a new Executive Chairman for the FCC earlier this year.

If confirmed, Victor Ikeji will be responsible for ensuring the equitable distribution of federal appointments and resources — a constitutional mandate of the FCC — for Nigeria’s 36 states, including Abia.
