# The Mayor of Njikoka LGA, Barr. Dominic Chinedu Ononiba, paid an inspection visit to the ongoing asphalting work along the Abagana–Oye Nimo road.

This project is part of his administration’s effort to improve road infrastructure and ease transportation for residents within Njikoka LGA.

During the inspection, Barr. Ononiba expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work so far. He confirmed that about 500 meters (half a kilometer) of the road had already been successfully asphalted. He also commended the contractor for the well-executed drainage system and water channeling, which he said are crucial to the durability of the road.

# The Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Anambra State says it will intensify supervisory mechanism to monitor the activities of local government administrations and their elected council chairmen.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Nwabufor Nwankwo stated this in Awka after defending his ministry’s 2026 Budget before the relevant House of Assembly Committee.

Nwankwo noted the ministry plays more of a supervisory role following the conduct of local government election across 21 LGAs last year by Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, and subsequent granting of full autonomy to LGAs.

He stressed the need for close monitoring of Local Government administrations to ensure that they operate within the bounds of the law.

# A Group, the Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC) based in Awka, has in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Anambra State lent its voice to the fight against Gender Based Violence (GBV) on women and girls.

The campaign themed, ‘UNITE to end Digital Violence Against Women and Girls: Celebrating Survivors of Digital Violence’ started on November 24 with symposia and public demonstrations aimed at creating awareness on the topic ended on Wednesday, December 9 with a road walk.

According to the Programme Officer, Gender Based Violence and Adolescent Health, Ministry of Health Awka, Mrs. Chioma Offor, “it was a 16 days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which started on November. The work does not end here; we will continue to create awareness to keep our women and girls safe.

# The Chairman of Orumba South LGA, Hon. Shedrach Azubuike has launched three Toyota Sienna vehicles and three motorcycles to help the vigilante in the community secure the area.

The Mayor presented the vehicles, motorbikes and other security equipment to the state vigilante Organisation, Agunechemba Security Outfit to enhance local security operations.

Hon. Azubuike also led stakeholders on an inspection of the facilities and the ultra-modern Solution Digital Academy and the Orumba South Security Control Room.

# Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu has discharged Mr. John Abel, a 49-year old inmate at the Medium Security Custodial Centre Aguata.

The discharged inmate’s prosecution was delayed; resulting in him being in custody for a year and two months over alleged stealing.

Justice Anyachebelu, represented by Justice Ifeanyi Nweze and other Judges also granted bail to four other inmates at the facility and ordered that their trial and that of others continues at the regular court.

Speaking to journalists after court session, Justice Anyachebelu expressed delight that most cases at the facility are ongoing at the regular court, describing it as a proof that the courts and the state Attorney General are working to avoid prison congestion.

Also speaking, Assistant Controller of Corrections and Officer in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre Aguata, Kelvin Okonkwo, thanked the judiciary for doing a great job that helps in prison decongestion, expressing confidence that the beneficiaries have been exposed to things that will help them be useful to the society.

# Committed to lifting people out of poverty, a non-governmental organization, Good Governance Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Limited, in conjunction with Good Generations Ministry, has announced the launch of the GGM Agricultural Estate in Ayamelum Local Government Area.

In his opening remark at the 2025 end-of-year meeting of the Cooperative Society in Awka, the GGMCS President, Mr. Ndubisi Anaenugwu, who announced the acquisition of the farmland, explained that in the 2025 financial year, fifty-one new members joined the economic team, while their “Isusu” contributions grew by 185%, capital investments increased by 54%, and deposit earnings rose by an impressive 167%, all reflecting not only the confidence members have in the Cooperative but also their collective commitment to building a financially empowered community, adding that Anambra State Government can partner with Cooperative Societies like GGM Cooperative to ensure food security and quality jobs in the state and the Igbo nation at large.

GGM Leader, Mr. Chinedu Asuzu, who noted that Nigeria’s political class has weaponized hunger and poverty against citizens, stated that GGMCS was birthed to address these challenges and ensure economic development for the people.

# Ahead of the yuletide season, the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has flagged off Operation Zero Road Traffic across the state to secure smooth movement

As part of the festive operations, the agency will strictly enforce speed limits on newly completed roads, with vehicles violating traffic rules to be impounded for seven days without fines.

ARTMA called on residents, transport operators, and traders to support the operation, assuring that a traffic-free festive season is achievable with collective cooperation, further projecting Anambra as an organized and progressive state.

ARTMA Managing Director, Engr. Emeka Okonkwo, said the initiative targets congestion control and strengthened road enforcement, building on the road infrastructure improvements of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Power and Water Resources,Engr Julius Chukwuemeka, accompanied by permanent secretary and other senior officers in his ministry,on this Wednesday,10th December,2025 depended the 2026 Budget of his ministry before members of the House of Assembly Committee on Power and Water Resources.

Opening the session,the Chairman of House Committee on Power and Water Resources, Hon.Golden Chukwuebuka Iloh, representing Ihiala 2 Constituency asked the commissioner to give them the details of the projects he intends to execute in 2026 fiscal year with the budget size of N18,191,500,000.

While responding, the commissioner stated that his ministry has three major departments: Power, Water and Fire Service which are essential to human existence. He equally stated that the newly created Anambra State Electricity Regulatory Commission was also passed by the honourable members of Anambra State House of Assembly would fully take off by 2026 and the take off grant is captured in the 2026 Budget of his ministry which he has just defended.
