SWAN Honours ‘Chukwudi Oli’ For Contributing To Anambra Sports Development

The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, has honoured Chief Prince Chukwudi Oli with an Award of Recognition for his outstanding contributions to sports infrastructure development.

Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
Oli received the award during the SWAN End-of-Year programme and annual assessment of activities, held at East End Hotel and Suites, Anambra State.

Presenting the award, the leadership of SWAN Anambra State Chapter, led by Mr. Chimezie Anaso stated that Barr. Oli’s contributions have helped create enabling environments for sports growth, youth empowerment, and social cohesion, stressing that such gestures deserve encouragement and recognition.

SWAN noted that the initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen grassroots sports, provide platforms for young talents, and encourage positive youth participation through sports.

The association described Barr. Oli’s intervention as a practical demonstration of leadership and commitment to community development beyond politics.

According to the citation accompanying the award, Barr. Oli was recognised for his unwavering support for sports development, particularly his personal commitment to improving sports infrastructure at the grassroots level.

A notable highlight of his contribution is the construction of a stadium in his hometown, Nri, aimed at creating opportunities for youth engagement, talent discovery, and community-based sports development.

Barr. Oli, who also played a vital role in the recent Anambra State governorship election that resulted in the re-election of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, was commended for extending his impact beyond the political space into social and sports development.

In his response, Chief. Oli expressed gratitude to SWAN Anambra for the honour, describing it as a motivation to do more in supporting sports and youth-focused initiatives. He reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, noting that sports remain a powerful tool for unity, discipline, and societal growth.

The event also featured health talks and an educational lecture, aimed at promoting the welfare and professional development of journalists and sports stakeholders.

The award ceremony formed part of activities marking the end of the 2025 sports year, as SWAN Anambra reflected on achievements, challenges, and prospects for sports journalism and development in the state.
