# House of Representatives member representing Ihiala federal constituency at the National Assembly Rt. Hon. Dr. Paschal Arinzechukwu Agbodike has commenced reconstruction of eight buildings at St. Augustine’s Community Secondary School Mbosi vandalised by hoodlums during the dark days of insecurity in the area.

Agbodike who had promised that all the twelve buildings in the school destroyed by unknown gunmen would be rebuilt, has started the rebuilding process with eight structures simultaneously; insisting that in no distant time all the buildings would be attended to.

It would be recalled that in the dark days of insecurity, St. Augustine’s Community Secondary School Mbosi was attacked by daredevil hoodlums and the buildings destroyed beyond recognition while the students scampered for safety.

 

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, has reaffirmed the commitment of the present administration to protecting the learning environment of schools across the state, following a reported case of noise pollution affecting Promise International School, Onitsha.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh said this while addressing a petition submitted to her office by the Proprietress of Promise International School, Lady Ngozi Grace Udeh, concerning persistent noise disturbances allegedly emanating from Divine Dominion Prophetic Ministry, Onitsha, located opposite the school.

According to the petition, the church whose auditorium was constructed in 2024 has recently intensified its activities, generating excessive noise during school hours, particularly on Tuesdays between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

The commissioner noted that such disturbances disrupt teaching and learning, thereby infringing on students’ right to education in a conducive environment.

Prof. Chuma-Udeh emphasized that the Soludo-led administration will not tolerate actions that undermine academic activities in any part of the state. She reminded the parties that noise pollution is an offence under Nigerian law and attracts sanctions when established.

 

# The Enforcement Team of Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB) has clamped down on  stubborn builders that flout the laws that are regulating the building of houses in the state.

The exercise took place at Bida Road, by Nwangene Street in Onitsha South LGA, where the owner of the building with reckless abandonment blocked the access road linking the next Street within the locality.

On arrival to the Street in question with Payloader, the Enforcement Team, immediately demolished, and open up the blocked access road. Mrs. Chioma Egwuonwu, who is the Executive Secretary for Onitsha South Local Planning Authority (LPA), affirmed that the owner decided to ignore removal notices issued, instead, he chose blocking the access road with the part of his building.

In a separate speeches by two of the residents and the traders within the locality, they lauded the exercise by the Soludo-led Administration as ‘Ekwueme’.

 

# Anambra State Government has introduced 15 entrepreneurial subjects into junior secondary schools in other to boost the practical skills and mindset of students.

The subjects introduced include solar installation, garment making, GSM repairs, agriculture and processing, plumbing, tiling, POP installation, event management, bakery, hairstyling, make-up, interior design, CCTV and intercom installation, and digital literacy, including IT and robotics, among others.

In her address during the introduction of the subjects held at Igwebuike Grammar School, Awka, the Chairman of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu, said that in today’s rapidly changing world, education must go beyond theory and examinations to equip students with practical skills, creativity, innovation, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

Ikediugwu pointed out that the goal is to prepare learners not just to seek jobs but to create value, generate employment, and contribute meaningfully to the economic development of Anambra State.

The PPSSC Chairman stated that teaching methods for the entrepreneurial subjects must be practical, teachers adequately supported, and students exposed to real-life problem-solving experiences, while maintaining that the PPSSC remains committed to providing guidance, capacity building, and the necessary support to make entrepreneurial education effective and impactful across Anambra schools.

 

# The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, has paid a courtesy and advocacy visit to renowned philanthropist, Dr. ABC Orjiako, as part of the College’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Public–Private Partnerships for institutional development.

During the visit, Dr. Anyadiegwu presented proposals seeking support for the construction of a Central Security Post to enhance campus safety, as well as the establishment of scholarship schemes for indigent students of the College, aimed at promoting access, equity, and academic continuity.

She emphasized that improved security and targeted student support are critical to creating a safe, inclusive, and enabling environment for teaching and learning, while also aligning with Management’s broader reform agenda anchored on accountability, welfare, and sustainable development.

Dr. Orjiako received the proposals with keen interest and commended the Provost for her visionary leadership and proactive engagement in advancing the welfare and development of the College. The meeting was described as highly fruitful, reflecting a shared commitment to education, security, and social responsibility.

 

# The launch of two novels, Rose Petals and Glittering Spear, written by Mrs. Obianuju Ekwughe-Azukaego, a journalist and information officer with the Anambra State Ministry of Information, has been launched in Awka.

The launch of the two books was marked by high commendations from academics, media professionals, government officials, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate her literary achievement.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Osita Nwosu, a former lecturer of the author, recalled what he described as her outstanding brilliance as a student during her university days.

He described the task of writing and publishing books as demanding and intellectually rigorous, noting that Mrs. Ekwughe-Azukaego’s accomplishment reflected discipline, vision, and excellence.

 

# A popular Philanthropist, Nze Vincent Nwankwo, has donated a newly constructed and furnished standard four-bedroom house to a 60-year old indigent widow, Mrs Nkechinyere Nwafor of Onneh, in Orumba South Local Government Area, Anambra State,

through his Ezeakunne Foundation  recently as part of his empowerment programme.

Nwankwo at the event which took place in his Onneh country home, also empowered four young men of the community with one shuttle bus each, for economic self-reliance and prosperity.

 

# The Traditional Prime Minister of Ogwu-Ikpele kingdom, Chief Akaka Damian Anigboso led the residents of the community, youths, women and the elderly people to protest against the deplorable and pitiable condition of their community inspite of oil exploration in the area for ten years by Sterling Petroleum Energy Exploration Company (SPEECO).

Ogwu Ikpele, a riverine community  in Ogbaru Council Area of Anambra State, is presently reeling in pains and agony over ten years of oil exploration from SPEECO.

During the protests, the people erected barricades in some places and  the drills and electricity shut down, resulting in huge losses to the company.

Their protests which coincided with the company’s celebration of 10 years of oil exploration in the community centered around lack of visible social amenities like tared roads, Hospitals or Health Centres or any health facility at all, Electricity, Pipe- borne Water, and  schools.

The two bore holes in the vast community, the people said were the ones dug recently by the state government and the All Progressives Congress (APC ) in the  council area when they were soliciting for support during the November 8, Guber polls in the state.

 

# In line with oversight functions of the Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), the Executive Secretary, Pharm Chisom Uchem has carried out health facility supportive supervisory visit, with a call for communities active participation in primary healthcare.

The supervisory visit was to Ezinifite Health Post, Aguata Local Government Area (LGA). It was to enable the Agency to get firsthand information on the structure, happenings/activities of the health facility.

In attendance during the visit were the Primary Healthcare (PHC) Directors, of Aguata and Idemili North Local Government Health Authorities (LGHAs), Dr Emeka Nzewi and Mrs Chinwe Okeke. Also, the President General (PG) Ezinifite, Mr Jude Eze and other members of the community.

Enlightened the community members present on the need and importance of community participation in the functionality and development of health facilities. She urged them to be actively involved in affairs of the facility as it would aid its prosperity and attract interventions.
