AFCON 2025 Hits Record 6 Billion Digital Views

The Confederation of African Football hailed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as a digital phenomenon Wednesday, announcing it garnered six billion views on social media, eclipsing all prior continental tournaments and spotlighting the surging worldwide appeal of African football.

Hosted in Morocco from December 22, 2025, to January 18, 2026, the event saw Senegal triumph over the home side in the final, but CAF’s post-tournament report focused on unprecedented online metrics, including 5.2 billion video views and 285 million engagements.

“The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 has broken new ground with a record 6 billion digital views across social media platforms during the Competition,” CAF said in a statement.

“The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 is now the most viewed football continental competition, generating an extraordinary 5.2 billion video views,” it added. “These numbers underline the tournament’s growing global influence and the unmatched passion of African football fans.”

The surge drew millions of new followers from diaspora communities, with TikTok emerging as a powerhouse platform featuring over one million user-created videos under the #TotalEnergiesAFCON2025 hashtag, blending goal highlights, humor, music, and cultural flair to attract younger demographics.

CAF attributed the milestone to innovative fan outreach, including behind-the-scenes glimpses and real-time reactions that transcended borders, setting a fresh standard for the sport’s digital footprint on the continent.

Looking ahead, the body noted the 2027 edition will be jointly staged by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19 to July 18, marking East Africa’s first hosting in over five decades.
