The mother of Super Eagles’ Samuel Chukwueze has died after a brief illness, the player’s family announced on Wednesday.
The death of the Abia-born forward’s mother was disclosed by his brother in a post shared on Instagram, prompting an outpouring of condolences from fans and figures across the football community.
Chukwueze, a Super Eagles winger and Fulham player currently on loan, has yet to issue a public statement on the loss.
A family source confirmed the development, describing the death as sudden.
“She passed away after a brief illness,” the source said.
The news comes at a time when Chukwueze has been a key figure for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where his pace, direct running and attacking flair have played a crucial role in the Super Eagles’ campaign.
