GK Nwabali Parts Ways With Chippa United After Transfer Request

South Africa’s Chippa United on Tuesday confirmed the departure of Nigerian international goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, following his formal request to leave the club, bringing an emotional end to a spell that cemented his rise on the continental stage.

The club acknowledged that Nwabali had submitted a transfer request, which was subsequently accepted, paving the way for the Super Eagles shot-stopper to explore new opportunities ahead of the next phase of his career.

In a heartfelt farewell message, Nwabali described his time at Chippa United as more than just professional football, calling it “a family.”

“As I stand here to say farewell, but more than a goodbye, I want to say thank you,” he wrote. “The memories we’ve shared, the hard-fought victories, the setbacks we turned into lessons, the laughs and the tears are moments I will carry with me forever.”

The goalkeeper said he was leaving with “a heart full of gratitude and a lifetime of cherished memories,” adding that the lessons learned at the club would remain with him long after his departure.

Nwabali reserved special praise for the club’s leadership, describing the chairman as a father figure during his stay.

“To the club chairman, thank you for being such a father figure to me. Thank you for the honour of letting me be part of this story,” he said, wishing the club success in the coming seasons.

Nwabali, who became a household name in Nigeria following his standout performances for the Super Eagles, including at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, joined Chippa United when his career was still gaining momentum. His consistency and composure between the posts quickly made him a key figure at the club.

While his next destination has not yet been announced, the departure is expected to attract interest from clubs within and outside Africa, given his recent international exploits.

“Even though I may not wear the shirt anymore, a part of me will always remain with this club,” Nwabali concluded.
