The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, on behalf of the Anambra State Government, ANAWOOD, signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
Comrade Onyenji while speaking at the event held at Igbariam campus of the university, said the the signing of the MoU is aimed at achieving a robust creative economy in Anambra state.
The Commissioner maintained that the tripartite arrangement is an initiative where Anambra government will achieve Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s desire to create a robust, vibrant and organic creative industry in the state, which will be the foundation for what will happen in future that will driver cultural and entertainment tourism.

Onyenji noted that the MoU will enable students in the Theatre Arts and Music Department of COOU interested in creative economy to blend academics with practical experience since the ecosystem in Anambra State is now ready to receive a robust creative industry as the present administration has created the enabling environment that enables creativity to thrive.
He explained that ANAWOOD is in the tripartite agreement because is a special purpose vehicle through which the state government works with the creatives in Anambra to achieve Governor Soludo’s vision of building a robust creative economy, adding that the goal is to create more jobs in Anambra which will grow the state economy, develop and promote all kinds of tourism in the state.
On her part, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Kate Omenugha, expressed optimism that the MoU will give their students the opportunity to have hands on experience in what they are learning.
Prof. Omenugha noted that with ANAWOOD in the university, their students will meet a lot of technical hands who will touch their lives and change the narratives for them and they will be able to have a touch of what it takes to be in the creative industry.
