# The Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Comrade Don Onyenji, on behalf of the Anambra State Government, ANAWOOD, signed a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’ with Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
Comrade Onyenji while speaking at the event held at Igbariam campus of the university, said the the signing of the MoU is aimed at achieving a robust creative economy in Anambra state.
The Commissioner maintained that the tripartite arrangement is an initiative where Anambra government will achieve Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s desire to create a robust, vibrant and organic creative industry in the state, which will be the foundation for what will happen in future that will driver cultural and entertainment tourism.
Onyenji noted that the MoU will enable students in the Theatre Arts and Music Department of COOU interested in creative economy to blend academics with practical experience since the ecosystem in Anambra State is now ready to receive a robust creative industry as the present administration has created the enabling environment that enables creativity to thrive.
He explained that ANAWOOD is in the tripartite agreement because is a special purpose vehicle through which the state government works with the creatives in Anambra to achieve Governor Soludo’s vision of building a robust creative economy, adding that the goal is to create more jobs in Anambra which will grow the state economy, develop and promote all kinds of tourism in the state.
On her part, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Kate Omenugha, expressed optimism that the MoU will give their students the opportunity to have hands on experience in what they are learning.
Prof. Omenugha noted that with ANAWOOD in the university, their students will meet a lot of technical hands who will touch their lives and change the narratives for them and they will be able to have a touch of what it takes to be in the creative industry.
# The State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State, Commandant Maku Olatunde, has reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to deepen inter-agency collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service in Anambra State.
Commandant Maku made this known when he received on a familiarization visit Mr. Umerah Timothy Nwanegbo, the Comptroller of Immigration, Anambra State Command at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka.
The NSCDC State boss emphasized that synergy among security agencies is crucial for effective intelligence sharing, coordination, and rapid response to emerging threats.
Maku promised the Comptroller of Immigration of the Command’s readiness to sustain and strengthen the long-standing cordial relationship between both agencies. He reaffirmed that the NSCDC remains ready to discharge its core mandates, as established by law, and provide necessary support whenever called upon, in the interest of national development and public safety.

# Anambra State Police Command has engaged students and school authorities in an interactive session focused on school safety, personal security awareness, and crime prevention.
During the interaction, the Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Department, ACP Oruru Harrison, enlightened the students of Sacred Heart Academy Ifite Ogwari, on the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, bullying, cybercrime, and other social vices.
The officer also emphasised the importance of vigilance, responsible behaviour, and prompt reporting of suspicious activities in and around the school premises.
The Command encouraged students to build positive relationships with law enforcement agencies and reassured them of the Police’s readiness to respond swiftly to distress calls and security concerns affecting educational institutions.
The Police further urged school administrators to strengthen internal security measures and maintain close collaboration with security agencies to proactively address potential threats.

He noted that since NSCDC and Nigeria Immigration Service are under the same Ministry of Interior, there was need therefore for both agencies to combine resources and expertise to prevent crimes effectively.
# The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria has elected new leaders that will continue to pilot the affairs of the Conference which represents the collective interest of various State Legislatures towards ensuring a robust legislative institution aimed at promoting the rule of law and good governance in the country.
The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor was elected the Chairman of the Conference held in Abuja.
Speaking after his election, the Speaker of Anambra Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze thanked the Conference for finding him worthy to serve the country and South East zone in such exalted legislative position, adding that he will use his wealth of experience as a three-time elected legislator and Speaker to promote legislative excellence and leadership.
Rt. Hon. Udeze assured the people of South East zone of his preparedness to champion a collective legislation that will foster regional development among the five States of the South East in line with the guiding principles of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, while soliciting support from his colleagues, Governors of the South East as well as the Nigerian masses.
# The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 39-year old man, Mr Ifeanyi Ibeabuchi, Abdullahi Shaibu, aged 26 years and Obah Chima, aged 18 years respectively over unlawful possession of a firearm and involvement in illicit drug activities at Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The Police Operatives attached to Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu, acting on credible information in the late hours of 9th February 2026, stormed a motel located in Uke where the criminals were arrested.
According to SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, during the search, one Jojef pump action gun with breach number 21SA-0724, loaded with three live cartridges was recovered at the scene.
“Also, Mr Ifeanyi confessed to the crime as investigations led to the arrest of the other two suspects and the recovery of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, Crystal Methamphetamine, Colos, and Mkpuru-mmiri’. The PPRO stated.
The Command reiterates its commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against criminal elements in the State and urges members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid policing efforts.
# To strengthen internal security collaboration across Anambra State, Prince Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser on Community Security to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has convened an important meeting with local vigilante groups and security company owners in
the State. This initiative aims to coordinate and integrate their activities within the framework of the state’s Homeland organization.
Prince Emeakayi emphasized the significance of Section 7 of the Anambra Homeland Security Laws of 2025, which mandates that any private security firm operating in the state must register with the State Government after fulfilling other necessary regulatory criteria.
