# Fear and chaos gripped Nnamdi Azikiwe University as unknown attackers suspected to be herdsmen launched a shocking nighttime assault on students heading for a lesson, leaving several injured and one freshman brutally maimed.
The terrifying incident erupted around 9 p.m. along the deserted stretch of Ifite Road in Awka, Anambra State, where mostly first-year students unknowingly walked into danger.
Witnesses said the assailants struck suddenly, sending the victims scattering in panic.
One young man was not lucky enough to escape. In a desperate struggle to defend himself, he reportedly had three fingers severed before help arrived. His twin sister’s frantic cries drew rescuers who rushed him to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital.
# Anambra 8th Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has request the House Committee on Rules, Ethics and Privileges, headed by the Majority Leader, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme, to review the suspension of Hon. Barnard Udemezue, member representing Ayamelum Constituency.
Rt. Hon. Udeze during plenary on Tuesday, February 17th, urged the Chairman of the Committee, to in accordance with the House resolution, urgently reveiw the suspension of Udemezue, and report to the House in the next adjurned date.
It would be recalled that the House at plenary, through a resolution, following the initial review on 28th August 2025, and based on the report of House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, on the unperlementry activities of Hon. Udemezue, suspended him.
Hon. Udemezue was further suspended for another three months for failing to meet the initial resolution of the House.
The addition three months suspension which commenced from 26th November 2025, is expected to end on 26th February 2026.

# The NIgeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Anambra State Command has vowed to step up its regulatory supervision and enforcement as the only Federal Government approved regulatory body on the activities of private guard companies and mining sites.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the state Commandant of NSCDC stated this at the State Command Headquarters Awka while playing host to Mr. Ofen- Imu Atiba Sunday, the pioneer Zonal Director, of Awka Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC).
According to him, the command is aware of a recent publication circulating on social media and news channels on recent directives by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Community Security mandating Private Guards Companies (PGC) to register with Agunechemba in Anambra State.
The Command therefore urge the populace to disregard such misleading and mischievous information which is an abrogation of the act establishing Private Guards Companies, potentially undermining the legal framework for PGC operations.
The NSCDC restates that the registration and licensing, training, monitoring and regulation of Private Guards Companies (PGCs) fall exclusively under the purview of NSCDC, as mandated by the NSCDC Act 2003 (as amended).

This distinguished recognition brings honour to UNIZIK, as Prof. Ikechebelu becomes the third member of the university community to attain this esteemed global fellowship.
This accomplishment culminates his 29 years of dedicated service as a consultant in reproductive medicine and women’s health within the West African subregion.

# Ogechukwu Success Nwite, sister to the Onitsha trader, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite, who was attcked by his apprentice at No. 2 Enyiuko Street, Fegge, Onitsha has narrated her ordeal.
Speaking to newsmen, Ogechukwu said she was asleep when she suddenly felt a hard object hit her on the head. Before she could understand what was happening, the apprentice hit her again, and when he attempted to hit her for the third time with the pistol, she grabbed his hand, struggled free, and ran outside to call for help.
According to her, it was at that point she realized that the apprentice had already attacked her brother, Mr. Ikechukwu Nwite, who was lying unconscious in the kitchen.
Ogechukwu, who is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, revealed that the apprentice had been living and working with her brother for about three years. She said she was not aware of any major misunderstanding between them, except that her brother had recently scolded the apprentice for something he did wrong at the shop. She expressed disbelief that such a minor issue could provoke such a violent action.
# The Deputy Governor of Anambra, Dr OnyekaChukwu Ibezim personally went out to monitor the level of compliance with Governor Soludo’s directive to end the Monday sit-at-home order in Anambra.
He visited Timber Market in Umuokpu and some banking premises, where he got a firsthand assessment of the situation on the ground.
Speaking during the inspection, Dr. Ibezim expressed profound joy that economic activities are picking up steadily. He maintained that continuous encouragement must be given to Ndi Anambra so they go about their lawful businesses without fear, noting that Anambra is open for business.
