# Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, in collaboration with the Godlight Foundation, has organized an orientation programme for the newly matriculated Year One students.

The initiative was designed to formally acquaint the freshers with the ethical standards, moral expectations, and academic culture of the University.

The event, held at the ETF Auditorium and attended by a large and enthusiastic freshers, featured a compelling address by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha.

In her speech, Omenugha carefully outlined the academic discipline and personal conduct required for meaningful success within the institution.

Emphasizing the core values of the University, the VC described discipline as the guiding principle of the institution, stressing that cleanliness and respect for University property are non-negotiable responsibilities of every student. She urged the freshers to cultivate a culture of environmental consciousness and collective responsibility.

 

# The Anambra State Police Command has received a 52-year old male suspect, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe, from operatives of the 302 Artillery Regiment, Nigerian Army Cantonment Onitsha, in connection with an ongoing investigation involving conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous bullet injuries, and murder in Urum.

The suspect is alleged to have conspired with one Felix Godwin and other persons currently at large to sponsor armed men for a violent ambush along the road in Urum, targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

According to SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra Command, during interrogation, Ndibe Jude Onyenwe reportedly confessed that Felix Godwin allegedly paid the sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000) through an Access Bank account to hire four gunmen from Ayamelum Local Government Area, alongside one Emeka (surname unknown) from Urum Community, who reportedly led the attack. He also stated that Felix mobilized him with the sum of Three Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦350,000) for the purchase of four packets of cartridges used in the operation.

During the deadly ambush, six persons sustained serious bullet injuries.

# The Anambra Civil Society Network (ACSONet) has called for urgent multi-stakeholder intervention to address mounting infrastructure and operational challenges affecting the ongoing National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment exercise in Anambra State.

The call followed an advocacy visit led by its Chairman, Prince Chris Azor, to the Anambra State office of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in Awka.

The visit came shortly after a civil society coalition engagement in Lagos under the ID4D Initiative in collaboration with NIMC. ACSONet said its engagement in Awka was designed to obtain first-hand updates on the six-week ward-level enrollment exercise, understand how it is being implemented, identify practical bottlenecks, and explore how civil society can support broader and more inclusive access to the NIN across communities.

Receiving the delegation, the Anambra State Coordinator of NIMC, Mrs. Maureen Abazu, disclosed that the ward-level enrollment exercise commenced on February 16, 2026, and primarily targets fresh registrations, especially for residents aged 16 years and above.

She explained that the exercise aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is aimed at expanding identity coverage at the grassroots level.

 

# The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has been admonished to lead with discernment and divine wisdom as he oversees the affairs of the university.

This charge was given by Bishop Owen Nwokolo, Bishop on the Niger, during a special service held in honor of the Vice-Chancellor at the Calvary Chapel of the Bishop’s Court, Onitsha.

In his exhortation, Bishop Nwokolo prayed for God’s guidance, strength, and wisdom upon the Vice-Chancellor, urging him to uphold integrity, fairness, and courage in leadership. He emphasized the importance of discernment in decision-making and steadfast commitment to excellence in the administration of the university.

 

# The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, has taken a major step towards delivering an outstanding 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Summit, with the secured support and partnership of the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).

During a high-level courtesy visit by the AGM/Summit Planning Committee to the ABS headquarters, the Managing Director, Mr. Chris Molokwu, gave a firm assurance of ABS’s commitment to collaborate with NIPR Anambra in amplifying the vision, conversations, and impact of the forthcoming summit.

This partnership signals a strong alignment between professional public relations practice and strategic media engagement – a combination that will undoubtedly elevate the 2026 AGM/Summit to national prominence.

 

# Igbo women under the aegis of the Igbo Women Assembly (IWA) have vowed to halt the steady decline of the Igbo language, blaming the growing disinterest among younger generations for its endangered status.

The women explained that the decision to relocate the celebration of International Mother Tongue Day from Lagos to the South-East three years ago was deliberate and aimed at reviving the use of Igbo language and culture within the region.

In a statement issued and signed by IWA National President, Lolo Nneka Chimezie, the group announced that this year’s Mother Tongue Day celebration will hold on Saturday in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

According to the statement, the event will be preceded by a symposium on Friday at 4:00 p.m. at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, featuring lectures and panel discussions focused on the preservation and promotion of Igbo language and culture.

# A bill for a law to establish the “Anambra State Rural Access Roads Development Agency (ASRARA) Bill 2026”, has scaled through first reading.

The bill is established for the purpose of overhaul and management of reconstruction and maintenance of Class C and Class D roads in Anambra State.

The bill sponsored by the Majority Leader, Sir. Ikenna Ofodeme, aims to improve rural access, transport infrastructure, agricultural marketing, and to make provisions for connected matters.

Also at plenary, the Majority Leader, Sir. Ofodeme also sponsored and presented “Anambra State Roads Fund Board (ASRFB) Bill 2026.

The bill which is for planning, development, rehabilitation, reconstruction and maintenance of class C and Class D roads in Anambra State and connected purposes.

# The local government Chairman of
Anaocha Council Area, Hon. Rome Ibekwe has commissioned a 60,000-liter water storage capacity and solar-powered borehole at Ichida to give the people of the community access to portable water.

Speaking at the event held at Ichida Civic Center, Ibekwe said his administration targets projects that meet the basic needs of Ndi Anaocha, stating that before assuming office, they conducted a survey to identify the most important challenges facing the local government and have been meeting them.

The Mayor identified that the water project brings to two projects carried out in Ichida by his administration with the road rehabilitation inclusive as he asked Ndi Ichida to guard the project jealously.

The local government Chairman thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA for giving him the platform to serve his people.
