US Warns Citizens in Nigeria Amid Escalating Iran Tensions

The United States has issued a security alert to its citizens in Nigeria, urging heightened vigilance amid the escalating conflict with Iran following US-led airstrikes that reportedly killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top officials, the embassy said Wednesday.

The advisory follows Iran’s retaliatory missile strikes on US bases in Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, in response to what Tehran called aggression.

“Following the launch of US combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide and especially in the Middle East should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest US embassy or consulate,” the alert stated.

It warned of potential travel disruptions from “periodic airspace closures” linked to the crisis and advised increased caution globally.

Citizens were encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program for updates and to monitor the “U.S. Department of State Security Updates for US Citizens” WhatsApp channel.

US President Donald Trump, in a live address during the strikes, vowed to dismantle the regime: “We are determined to eliminate members of the Iranian regime,” he said, calling on Iranians to seize control post-operations. “When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take.”

The embassy provided no specific threats to Nigeria but emphasized general precautions amid the regional fallout.
