Singer Joeboy has voiced concerns over the increasing barriers facing new talents in the music industry, attributing the difficulties to the need for strong social media presence beyond just quality tunes.
In a discussion with media personality Jay On-Air, the 29-year-old Nigerian performer, formerly signed to Mr Eazi’s emPawa Africa label, reflected on how the landscape has shifted.
“I genuinely feel for artists that are trying to go mainstream right now because unlike before, it takes a lot more and it now depends on your personality and all of that,” Joeboy said.
He elaborated: “Because right now you have to be on everybody’s faces and all of that. Back then, if you have a great music, a great brand behind you and great marketing, the chances of you popping up was really higher. But now, it demands way more than that.”
Joeboy urged aspiring musicians to harness platforms like TikTok for effective promotion, emphasizing the role of influencer-like engagement in today’s market.
