Many Anambra Laws Are Overdue For Review, Amendment: Udeze Declares

The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze,
says many laws in the state are overdue for review and amendment.

Rt. Hon. Udeze made this known during a four-day retreat for the leadership and members of the 8th Assembly holding in Asaba, Delta State.

According to the Speaker, some of the laws currently in use were inherited from the era of military rule and have never been properly adjusted to fit the present democratic system.

Udeze also explained that some of the laws do not align with international agreements signed by Nigeria. He noted
that some existing laws have become outdated, especially in today’s digital world, listing areas such as data protection, community development, environmental regulation, and the rights of persons with disabilities as some of the laws that need urgent review.

The Speaker said the retreat was organised to help lawmakers set clear legislative goals, including identifying the laws that need to be reviewed before the end of the legislative year, the new bills the House plans to introduce, and the support needed to ensure that lawmakers perform their duties effectively.
