Rim Village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State was thrown into panic on Tuesday night after gunmen stormed the community, killing two people and injuring two others in a sporadic shooting that lasted several minutes.
Sources in the community said the attackers arrived around 10:30 pm, firing indiscriminately before fleeing into nearby bushes. The injured victims were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Confirming the incident, National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Movement (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, told newsmen in Jos that the attack was another tragic episode in the recurring insecurity affecting Riyom and surrounding communities.
“Gunmen stormed Rim Village around 10 pm on Tuesday and opened fire sporadically. As of now, two people have been confirmed dead while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital,” Tengwong said.
He urged security operatives to intensify patrols and bring the perpetrators to justice. Efforts to reach the Plateau Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Alfred Alabo, for comment were unsuccessful.
