# A health specialist, Dr Ngozi Okonkwo, has warned about the prevalence of cardiovascular related ailments among rural dwellers in Anambra State.
Okonkwo who is a consultant family physician with Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Anambra State, stated this, March 13, during a health outreach organized by the member representing Idemili North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Uchenna Harris Okonkwo.
The health expert who is the team lead of other medical experts at the outreach, said they were in Idemili South for the first leg of the two-day programme to attend to patients from all the seven towns in the local government, with a focus on cancer, eye check and cardiovascular diseases.
She however, raised alarm over what she described as the number of people suffering cardiovascular related ailments, yet remained unaware of their health status, which, she said, posed a grave danger.
# The Anambra State Government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Saudi Arabian ICT giant, Dhahran Techno Valley Holding Company (DTVC), to accelerate investment in technology in the state.
The Solution Innovation District (SID), an agency of the Anambra State Government, created by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to boost ICT, signed on behalf of the state.
A press release by the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, announcing the signing of the MoU, said the deal would also strengthen collaboration in research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology commercialisation.
Mefor said: ‘The agreement, signed during a high-level innovation engagement in Beijing, marks the beginning of a strategic partnership designed to accelerate innovation-driven economic growth across Africa and the Middle East.
# Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers and cultists in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Anambra Police spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this, stating that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, carried out the arrest at a criminal hideout.
SP Ikenga noted the police are investigating the suspects for possible involvement in the gruesome murder of the late President General of Ogidi.
He explained that the operatives, acting on credible intelligence, stormed the hideout on March 21, 2026, at about 1:46 p.m., leading to the arrest of Francis Chukwuka Anene (46), Emmanuel Obi (29), and Okoye Chinonso (35), who allegedly serves in a security agency.
The police recovered two locally made Beretta pistols, four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and a suspected fake security agency identity card from the suspects.
Preliminary investigations, according to Ikenga, reveal that the suspects belong to a criminal syndicate involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and terrorising residents of Ogidi and surrounding communities.
# The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Onitsha Central Police Station, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Harrison Nnamdi, has been awarded Best DPO of the Year by the National Community Policing Campaign (NCPC).
CSP Nnamdi received the award in his office alongside his staff member, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Angela Williams, popularly known as “Pink Lady,” who was also honoured with the award for Best Surveillance and Detective of the Year.
Speaking shortly before the presentation, the Anambra State Chairman of NCPC, Elder Christopher Madueke, described the organisation as an operational arm of the Community Crimes Sensitization Centre.
He noted that it works closely with the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Madueke explained that although the awards were scheduled to be held the previous year, they could not take place.
He stated that the recognition was based on the numerous achievements, performance records, and legacies established by CSP Nnamdi and ASP Williams within the Nigeria Police Force.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has approved the appointment of Mrs Chiamaka Nnake as the new Secretary to the State Government of Anambra State
The announcement was made in a release signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Press Secretary to the Governor
Chiamaka Nnake, who is from Nawfia in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, is a seasoned finance and public sector professional with over 13 years of experience spanning finance, strategy development, and economic planning.
She most recently served as the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning in Anambra State and as Chairman of Solution Fun City Limited.
# In a move to safeguard the future of the Igbo language, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has appointed four distinguished professors under its Professorial Endowment Chair initiative, an intervention that has now placed Prof. Nkoli Mercy Nnyigide of Nnamdi Azikiwe University as part of promoters of Igbo intellectual and cultural renaissance.
The appointment is widely seen as a strategic response to growing concerns over the gradual decline of the Igbo language, with global bodies warning of its possible extinction if urgent measures are not taken.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Tobechukwu Nweke SAN as the new Attorney General of Anambra State.
Tobechukwu Nweke is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a chattered arbitrator, a native of Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State
He studied law at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus and graduated in 2008. He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja and was thereafter called to the Nigerian Bar in November, 2009, as Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
# The Anambra State Post Kidney Transplant Persons Association of Nigeria has joined in commemorating this year’s World Kidney Day, which has as its theme, “Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet.”
The association, which concluded the celebration with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith, Awka, focused on prioritizing prevention, early detection, and timely management of kidney disease, as well as promoting equitable access to transplantation and sustained kidney care.
World Kidney Day is observed annually to raise awareness about kidney health and highlight the risk factors that can lead to chronic kidney disease and other related complications.
Addressing members of the association, the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger and Bishop of the Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, encouraged them not to lose hope in whatever circumstances they find themselves, but rather to remain focused, live their lives as normally as possible while taking their medications as prescribed, assuring them that God will grant them healing and long life.
