A Russian Antonov-26 military transport plane crashed in Crimea on Sunday, killing all 29 people on board, Russian authorities said.
The aircraft went down in a remote area of the peninsula shortly after takeoff from an airbase near Simferopol, according to emergency services.
Russia’s defence ministry confirmed the incident and said an investigation had been launched into the cause of the crash.
No survivors were found at the site, officials added.
The Antonov-26 was carrying personnel and equipment on a routine logistics flight when it lost contact with air traffic control.
Local residents reported hearing a loud explosion followed by thick smoke rising from the crash area.
The Kremlin has not yet issued an official comment on the incident, which comes amid heightened military activity in the region.
