….SASA Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal
The Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA), Anambra State, has Intensified
enforcement operations aimed at eliminating illegal revenue collection and extortion across the state.
The agency in line with this mandate, recently arrested three suspects in separate operations within Onitsha and its environs.
In a press statement signed by its spokesperson, Karen James, the arrested suspects, Michael Uwaoma and Ndubuisi Aniukwu were apprehended for allegedly extorting traders and commercial operators at Mgbuka Obosi and Umusiome Junction, Nkpor, respectively.
SASA reiterates its zero-tolerance stance against illegal levies and related acts of extortion.
“The Agency remains committed to restoring order, protecting legitimate businesses, and ensuring a safe and lawful environment for all residents and traders. Members of the public are encouraged to report any incidents of illegal collection or harassment to the appropriate authorities”. James stated.
Preliminary investigations further revealed that Aniukwu acted under the directive of Mr. Anthony Onyekwelu, who allegedly imposed a daily remittance target.
Following their arrest, the suspects were arraigned before a competent magistrate court, where they were remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.
The court granted bail under strict conditions, including a ₦100,000 bail bond, a ₦300,000 fine, and the requirement of a verified Level 10 civil servant as surety.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the case has been adjourned to June 3, 2026, for further hearing.
