# The Deputy Governor of Anambra State,
Dr. OnyekaChukwu Ibezim has paid a tribute to the late former Vice chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, Professor Charles Arizechukwu Igwe, describing him as an erudite scholar whose life exemplified diligence and integrity.

Delivering the Governor’s message, Dr. Ibezim emphasized that the gathering was evidence of the enduring value of hard work.

He lamented the declining appreciation for honest labour among some youths, noting that the pursuit of quick wealth has contributed to societal challenges. He urged the younger generation to embrace discipline and integrity while encouraging the bereaved family to take solace in the impactful life lived by their patriarch. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed soul.

# Anambra State Governor’s wife, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has called on the newly inaugurated executive members of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Anambra State chapter, to use their offices to promote peace, good morals, and healthy living respectively.

She spoke during the inauguration of the new executive of the Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Onitsha.

Soludo called on the women to see motherhood as a privilege and an opportunity to build stronger households, improve communities, and encourage healthy lifestyles.

The Anambra first lady, who is also the founder of the non-governmental organisation, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, said the initiative promotes a culture of inclusion and partnership, stressing that good hygiene practices are essential for everyone, regardless of creed or status.

Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluchi Ibezim, Soludo urged the new leadership to prioritise advocacy for women’s rights, support for families, campaigns against gender-based violence, and the promotion of interfaith unity.

# The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has been urged to recontest for his seat.

The endorsement came from the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) faithful in Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area, during an executive and stakeholders’ meeting.

The stakeholders maintained that Udeze who is the lawmaker representing Ogbaru Two Constituency has performed well and delivered projects that benefit the people.

They praised the Speaker’s work, noting clear development and steady progress across different communities in Ogbaru during his time in office.

# Hon. Maureen Chinwe Gwacham, member representing Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency, has addressed a video clip circulating online while reaffirming her commitment to transparency and accountability.

In a statement, Gwacham explained that she was “momentarily caught off guard” during plenary, noting she was “just settling into my seat when Mr. Speaker beckoned on me to second the motion moved by Hon. Muktar Tolani Shagaya, an equally cerebral legislator with a reputation for moving credible motions.”

The motion in question seeks the “Urgent Need to Provide Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in Government Institutions and Public Buildings Across Nigeria to Prevent Avoidable Loss of Life.”

Hon. Gwacham thanked constituents who reached out with concern and restated her legislative focus.

“My focus remains on delivering for the good people of Oyi/Ayamelum, and I appreciate the continued confidence they have reposed in me,” she said.

# In a bid to further develop football in Anambra State, the Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, held a strategic meeting with the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Dr. Onyekachi Ibezim, at the Light House Awka.

The meeting focused on the progress of football in the state and sports in its entirety, with Iloenyosi highlighting his key programs for the year, which includes the Chairman’s Cup, the Anambra State Football League – which was restarted after a 30-year hiatus, and the All Stars Football competition.

The former Super Eagles international assured the Deputy Governor of his commitment to taking Anambra football to the next level through effervescent programmes and activities of the Anambra FA

Responding, Dr. Ibezim commended Iloenyosi’s blueprint geared towards revitalizing sports in the state through football and assured him of Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration’s support for football growth and sports excellence.

# Fear and chaos swept through Nnobi in after suspected cultists carried out a brutal, cold-blooded killing of a young man identified as Emeka, leaving residents in shock and a grieving family demanding justice.

The attack, which occurred in Ngandam village, was described by eyewitnesses as swift and merciless.

According to reports, the victim was allegedly lured to Umuru Junction by his attackers—four young men believed to be between 23 and 28 years old—before they unleashed a deadly assault.

Armed with machetes, clubs, and blocks, the assailants struck without warning. One blow reportedly brought Emeka to the ground, after which the gang descended on him, hacking and beating him repeatedly until he died on the spot.

At the heart of the tragedy is a devastated father, Emmanuel Agwuncha, who is visually impaired and physically challenged. Overwhelmed with grief, he described his late son as his sole support.

 

# Anambra Head of Service, (HoS) Barrister Ngozi Iwouno, has urged civil servants in the state to strictly adhere to civil service rules at all times.

Iwouno warned that her administration will not tolerate any form of indiscipline. She gave the warning at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, during a meeting with Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments, and other top officers in the state civil service.

The HoS reminded civil servants that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is committed to transforming the civil service into a twenty-first-century institution. She stressed on the need for civil servants to improve their performance.

# The frontline aspirant of APGA for Orumba North and South Federal Constituency, Sir. Ambrose Egwuonwu, has paid an official consultative visit to the State Working Committee of APGA, led by the State Chairman, Barr. Ifeatu Obiokoye, at the party’s regional secretariat in Awka.

Addressing the leadership of the party, Chief Egwuonwu outlined his manifesto and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening APGA across all levels — from the ward to the local government, state, and national structures.

Egwuonwu emphasized that the welfare, unity, and growth of the party would remain a top priority in his political journey.

He further appealed for the support and backing of the State Working Committee in his aspiration to represent Orumba North and South Federal Constituency at the Green Chamber, assuring them of purposeful and people-oriented representation if given the mandate.

In his response, Ifeatu Obiokoye, commended Egwuonwu for the consultative visit and his demonstrated commitment to the party.

# Work is progressing on the 15.6-kilometre Ekwulobia–Nnobi dual carriageway awarded by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

While the laying of asphalt is ongoing on a portion of one lane of the road at the Isuofia axis, the laying of stone base is ongoing on other parts, as well as the casting of the median at the centre of the road, all taking place simultaneously.

Also, drainage construction has been completed on both sides of the road up to eighty percent from point zero.

Speaking to newsmen, the site manager, Engineer Slavish Ivaloic, said that the construction work, which commenced in September 2025, is about forty percent completed.

The Immediate past Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA) Anambra State chapter Chairman, Dr Ezeanowai in a chat newsmen urged people to undergo regular health check ups and endeavour to always visit the hospital for Proper medical examinations, advice and on the need to adhere to their drug prescriptions in order to avoid deterioration of their eye health which can result in blindness.

According to Dr Ezeanowai, we joined the rest of the world to celebrate 2026 World Health Day held on the 7th of April, 2026 with the theme: Together for Health. “Standing with Science”.
