Anambra Speaker Commissions ‘Naval Outpost Access Road’ In Onitsha

The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze has commissioned a one-kilometre access road at the Naval Outpost Onitsha, constructed by philanthropist, Chief Anthony Obele

The road was constructed in conjunction with the Naval Outpost Onitsha, as part of efforts to strengthen security infrastructure and improve connectivity in the area.

In his remarks, the Speaker who represented Governor Chukwuma Soludo, appreciated the benefactor for the gesture and for aligning with the state government’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland.

Rt. Hon. Udeze noted that the road will not only enhance the operational efficiency of the Naval Outpost Onitsha but also ease movement for residents and businesses within the area.

The Speaker reiterated his administration’s commitment to partnering with private individuals and organizations to accelerate infrastructural development across the state, emphasizing that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of development.

Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Navy, Rear Admiral S.D. Ibrahim commended the benefactor for what he described as a timely and strategic intervention, explaining that improved access roads are critical to rapid response, logistics movement, and overall operational readiness of naval personnel.

Ibrahim stated that the project would strengthen security presence in the area and contribute to safeguarding lives and property, while appreciating the Anambra State Government for its consistent support to the Nigerian Navy, and appealed to Ndi Anambra and other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate such gestures in support of national security and community development.

In his address, the benefactor, Chief Anthony Obele, said the completion of the road signifies a commitment to community growth and shared responsibility, stating that improved connectivity and accessibility are essential for both security and socio-economic development, adding that the project was driven by a desire to give back to society.

The event attracted Commander, Naval Base Oguta, Commodore Sabo Lengaya, Commander, Naval Outpost Onitsha,
Commander Kabiru Yusuf, the traditional ruler of Iyiowa Odekpe, military personnel, and a cross-section of residents who gathered to witness the commissioning.
