# ‎An increasing number of stakeholders across Anambra State have continued to express commendation for Governor Chukwuma Soludo regarding the construction of high-quality road infrastructure throughout the State.

‎Speaking in Amawbia, Mr. Kingsley Ibeh recalled that prior to the assumption of office by Governor Soludo on 17th March 2022, a significant number of roads in the state, including both federal and state-owned, were in a dilapidated condition.

‎According to Mr. Ibeh, the governor, being adequately prepared for the task of governance, “took the bull by the horns” and has since embarked on the simultaneous development of all sectors without neglecting any segment of the economy.

‌‎Also speaking, Mr. Stephen Akaobasi commended the governor for his numerous legacy projects, particularly the dualization of strategic roads. He noted that the projects are opening up previously inaccessible areas and enhancing commercial activities on a daily basis.

‎Also, Bro. Ibeakolam David lauded the governor’s enthusiasm and demonstrable commitment to Ndi Anambra. He observed that prior to the construction of the Ekwulobia–Amawbia Road, the journey between Amawbia and Ekwulobia typically lasted at least one hour, but has now been reduced to less than twenty minutes following the road’s completion.

# The declaration of interest by the serving Mayor of Ogbaru LGA, Sir Kenneth Akwuobi to contest for Anambra state house of assembly (Ogbaru 1 Constituency) has significantly altered the political landscape in Okpoko, with growing public interest and support shifting in his favour.

Stakeholders in the area described his emergence as timely, noting that the community has been yearning for a vibrant and credible representative to complement the ongoing transformation under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

They expressed strong confidence in Akwuobi’s leadership, describing him as a tested and trusted figure whose performance in Ogbaru, particularly in Atani, is visible and impactful.

According to them, his candidacy has rekindled hope among residents who are eager for purposeful representation and a departure from what they described as years of ineffective leadership.

# A bill for a law on Violence Against Persons Prohibition Bill 2026, on Tuesday, at plenary was red for the third time and passed into law.

The bill sponsored by lawmaker representing Onitsha North One Constituency, Barrister MiMi Ifeoma Azikiwe, was passed after some amendment where made at the ‘Committee of the Whole’

Speaking in an interview with House Correspondents after plenary, Hon. Azikiwe  maintained that things have changed and as policy makers, it is time to enact laws that will protect ndi Anambra.

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, stated that the law will take effect from May 15th 2026.

# Dr. Chris Obiajulu Onyekachukwu Nwokedi, has declared his bid for the Ogbaru Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, at Umudaike Village, Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area.

Addressing the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) members and supporters at the declaration, Nwokedi said his pursuit of the National Assembly seat has been consistent since 2010.

He commended Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo for what he called “visible achievements” funded through internally generated revenue, arguing that the governor’s performance has made APGA the choice platform for aspirants across party lines.

Nwokedi appealed directly to Ogbaru delegates to give him one term to prove his capacity. “No candidate wants to stay less than eight years, but I am asking for one tenure first to show Ndi Ogbaru what good governance is all about.

# Anambra Government has issued a directive to residents in the state to clear their drainages so as to open the waterways for free flow of rain water even as the rainy season commences this year.

This was contained in a release entitled, ‘Operation Desilt Your Waterways/Drainage Channels 3.0 Promoting Community Participation For a Sustainable Environment in Anambra State’, signed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Tochukwu Obodogha and made available to the public.

The date for the commencement of the exercise according to the release is Monday, April 27.

The release stated that the exercise is in pursuant to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda to transform the state into a smart mega city and African Dubai-Taiwan Silicon-Valey and in line with the Public Health Law (2006), Anambra State Drainage Management Policy (2024), and Anambra State Environmental Management, Protection and Administration Law (2024).

# A bill for a law to provide for the establishment of Commuters Manifest Scheme in Anambra State and for other releated matters, on Tuesday scaled second reading.

The bill which was sponsored by the Chief Whip and member representing Ihiala one constituency, Barr. Jude Ngobili.

Leading the debate, Hon. Ngobili maintained that the essence of the bill is to keep data of passengers coming in and out of Anambra State.

Ngobili noted that in cases of accident of attacks, victims can be tracked and compensated or intervene through the agency.

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, commended Ngobili for sponsoring the bill, noted that the law is coming at the right time.

# ‎Traders at Eke Awka Market have appealed to the Federal Government to implement sustainable measures to address the persistent escalation in the prices of goods and commodities.

‎The appeal was made during a market survey conducted by the media to assess prevailing commodity prices and market conditions. Findings indicated a sharp increase in the prices of several items, accompanied by a steady decline in patronage as residents contend with the rising cost of living.

‎The traders collectively urged the government to institute measures aimed at stabilizing the economy in order to alleviate the financial burden on both sellers and consumers.

# Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has approved the appointment of Professor Peter Azikiwe Onwualu, as the Chairman/Pro-Chancellor of the Governing Council for Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.

Onwualu is a professor of Agricultural Engineering and current VC of African University of Science and Technology, Abuja; and also a former DG/CEO of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council.

In a statement signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Soludo also appointed other members of the Governing Council, which are: Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, HRH Igwe Chidiume Oranu, Prof. Josephat Ogbuagu,  AIG (Rtd.) Sir. Chris Ezike

The new Governing Council members are expected to bring their combined wealth of diverse valued experiences to bear on the vision and governance of the university for greater academic excellence.
