Armed bandits attacked Ayegunle Bunu community in Kogi State early Monday, killing one person and abducting more than 30 others, including passengers from a commercial bus.
The assault occurred around 2:25 am in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area, throwing residents into panic. One other person sustained injuries during the incident.
Local sources said two residents of the community — a man and a woman — were among those taken, while the majority of victims were travellers whose bus was intercepted by the gunmen as it passed through the area.
As of Monday afternoon, security agencies had yet to issue an official statement on the attack, and efforts were ongoing to determine the precise number of abducted persons.
The latest incident adds to growing concerns over banditry and kidnapping in parts of Nigeria’s north-central region.
