RCCG Defends Adeboye Against Claims of Government Partisanship

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has firmly rejected accusations that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, campaigned for the government, insisting the cleric has always maintained a strictly non-partisan position.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the church clarified that Pastor Adeboye has consistently urged citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and vote according to their conscience without endorsing any political party or candidate.

“Pastor Adeboye and RCCG will not be defined by falsehood, and neither will the Church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly circulated as facts,” the statement said.

The church also addressed claims linking Adeboye to the cancellation of a planned protest. It explained that the cleric only communicated a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to shift the grand finale of a three-day prayer programme to a centralised venue and hold a rally around it.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye only communicated the instruction of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria to members of RCCG on the updated plan,” the statement added.

RCCG noted that similar messages were sent to all churches under the PFN umbrella nationwide.

The clarification comes amid ongoing public debate about the role of religious leaders in Nigeria’s political landscape. The church urged the public and media to verify information through official RCCG channels before publication.
