Police Arrest Two Suspects Linked To Murder Of Woman In Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered the circumstances surrounding the disappearance and murder of a 33-year-old woman in Oraifite and arrested two suspects linked to the crime.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, the breakthrough followed months of sustained intelligence gathering and digital forensic investigations by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka.

Angel Network News (ANN) gathered that
the suspects, identified as Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, 26, and Makuochukwu Uzoigwe, 20, were arrested on June 6, 2026.

SP. Ikenga disclosed that the case began on March 13, 2026, after the deceased’s mother reported her daughter missing at the Oraifite Divisional Police Headquarters.

A day later, on March 14, the lifeless body of an unidentified woman was discovered inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite. The victim was later identified by her father as his missing daughter.

Following the transfer of the case to the SCID in Awka for detailed investigation, detectives deployed intelligence and digital forensic techniques that eventually led to the arrest of the suspects.

During interrogation, the principal suspect, Thankgod Ikechukwu Ikwugwara, allegedly confessed to the killing. He reportedly told investigators that he had been in a relationship with the deceased for about three years and claimed he did not know she was married.

According to the police spokesman, the suspect further alleged that after an altercation with the deceased’s husband, he developed a strange illness that affected his sight and, out of resentment, planned the attack.

Investigators said the suspect confessed that on March 13, he invited the deceased to his residence under the pretext of seeking help due to illness. Upon her arrival, he and the second suspect allegedly attacked her with a machete, leading to her death.

The suspects were said to have disposed of the body inside a culvert near Jesus Bus Stop, Oraifite, in the early hours of the following day.

Ikenga stated that both suspects have confessed to their roles and will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the detectives for their resilience and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of crime.
