Kane Double Rescues England From Shock World Cup Exit Against DR Congo

Harry Kane scored twice in the final 15 minutes as England overcame a stunning early goal from DR Congo to win 2-1 and advance to the World Cup last 16 on Wednesday.

Brian Cipenga had given the underdogs a shock lead in the seventh minute, threatening one of the biggest upsets in tournament history. But captain Kane headed home an equaliser before smashing a dramatic winner from a tight angle.

The victory sends England through to face co-hosts Mexico in Mexico City. Manager Thomas Tuchel’s side had struggled for long periods but were rescued by their talismanic striker.

Kane’s heroics took his major tournament tally for England to 19 goals, underlining his importance to the team’s campaign.

The DR Congo national football team made history by qualifying for the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup for the first time ever. Competing in Group K, they advanced as the highest-ranked, third-placed side with 4 points.
