# The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Anambra State, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, officially declared open the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) South East Industrial Energy Solutions & Investment Symposium, reaffirming the State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for industrial growth and sustainable economic development.
Declaring the symposium open, Mrs. Nnake described the event as timely and strategic, noting that manufacturers across the country are currently grappling with escalating energy costs that continue to undermine productivity, competitiveness, and industrial expansion.
She observed that the symposium was significant not only for identifying existing challenges but also for providing practical, innovative, and sustainable solutions to address the energy needs of industries.
The SSG commended the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and the MAN Power Development Company Limited (MPDCL) for initiating the Industrial Energy Adoption Programme, an intervention designed to connect manufacturers with government institutions, regulators, technology providers, engineering partners, and financing organisations to facilitate access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions.
She reiterated that the Soludo Administration remains unwavering in its commitment to industrialisation through progressive policies, strategic partnerships, and investment-driven initiatives that promote innovation, enterprise development, and inclusive economic growth. According to her, affordable and dependable energy is indispensable to enhancing industrial productivity, attracting investment, creating employment opportunities, and strengthening the competitiveness of local industries.
# The local government chairman of Anaocha area, Honourable Rome Ibekwe has commissioned East Ocean Filling Station at Oye, Neni community.
Commissioning the facility, Hon. Ibekwe said it was a welcome development, as it aligns with one of the major objectives of Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration, which encourages ndi Anambra to think home and invest as part of the ongoing development in the state under the Aku Luo Uno mantra.
The Mayor noted that indeed, ndi Anaocha have seen the need to contribute to the progress of their area, saying that the mega filling station has brought empowerment, a sense of belonging and relief from the hardship of accessing fuel.
The local government chairman called on other affluent individuals to emulate the gesture and reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening the security architecture of Anaocha.
On his part, the President General of Neni Town Union, Sir. Christian Ikebudu, maintained that the filling station would boost economic activities in the community and bring greater visibility to the area.
Sir. Ikebudu commended the benefactor for thinking home, stating that the project has not only brought development but also increased the joy of many families, as several youths have been taken off the streets and engaged in meaningful employment.
The owner of East Ocean Filling Station, Neni, Mr. Chukwuka Nzelum, who spoke through his sister, Mrs Nkemakonam Nzelum-Nmuodiegwu, maintained that it has pleased God to enlarge their coast, and they considered it wise to come home to contribute to the development and progress of their community.
She pointed out that although they have other branches, responding to the Aku Luo Uno mantra was the major reason for establishing the station so that people from Neni and neighbouring communities would benefit.
# The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Anambra State Chapter, has intensified efforts to promote healthy living among residents through a health sensitisation exercise tagged “NIPR Walk for Life.”
The event, which had as its theme “Walk for Your Health and Community: A Bold Step into Wellness and a Step Out for Impact,” brought together members of the institute, health enthusiasts, public relations practitioners, and residents from different walks of life.
The exercise commenced at the Awka City Stadium and featured a road walk through major routes within the capital city before culminating in a fitness and workout session at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.
The event featured a road walk along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, aerobic workout sessions, health awareness talks, networking opportunities, refreshments, and other recreational activities aimed at encouraging residents to embrace healthy living and community wellness.
Addressing participants at the event, the Chairman of NIPR Anambra State Chapter, Dr. Ngozi Ulogu, described the initiative as part of the institute’s commitment to promoting not only professional excellence but also the physical and mental well-being of members and the general public.
She explained that regular exercise helps to improve cardiovascular health, strengthen the immune system, reduce stress, and lower the risk of developing chronic diseases, urging residents, irrespective of their age or occupation, to deliberately create time for physical activities.
# As part of activities marking his transition to the next phase of his policing career, the newly promoted and decorated Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Ikioye Orutugu has commenced a thank-you tour of stakeholders across Anambra State with a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Awka, His Royal Majesty, Obi Gibson Nwosu, Eze Uzu II of Awka.
The visit was aimed at expressing the AIG’s profound appreciation to the traditional institution and the people of Awka for their unwavering support, cooperation, and partnership throughout his tenure as the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State.
Speaking during the visit, AIG Orutugu thanked the monarch for his steadfast support for the Anambra State Police Command and other security agencies in promoting peace, security, and public safety in the state. He noted that the remarkable achievements recorded by the Command during his tenure were made possible through the collective efforts of the government, traditional institutions, community leaders, security stakeholders, and the good people of Anambra State.
AIG Orutugu reaffirmed that sustainable security can only be achieved through continued collaboration among the Police, traditional rulers, and members of the public. He therefore appealed for sustained support for the Command and other security agencies in the collective effort to keep Anambra State safe and secure.
In his response, Obi Gibson Nwosu congratulated AIG Orutugu on his well-deserved promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. He commended him for his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and remarkable contributions to enhancing security and public confidence in policing during his tenure in Anambra State.
The royal father wished AIG Orutugu continued success and God’s guidance as he assumes greater responsibilities in the next phase of his distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force.
# The lawmaker representing Njikoka one Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly Hon. Chidi Ibemeka sponsores a three-day free medical outreach and health screening programme.
Hon. Ibemeka who is the Chairman, House Committee on Petroleum and Mineral Resources, is organizing the outreach through the Save the Future Movement.
The lawmaker described the initiative as a token of appreciation to the women of Njikoka I for their invaluable contributions to their families and communities, encouraging eligible participants to take advantage of the opportunity by attending the outreach at their designated venues.
The initiative is designed to bring quality healthcare closer to the people by providing free medical services within their communities during the 2026 August women’s meetings.
The outreach will offer a wide range of healthcare services, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body temperature and other vital checks. Beneficiaries will receive medical consultations and treatment for common ailments such as malaria, typhoid and arthritis.
Specialised services will include dental consultations, tooth extraction, cleaning and fillings, as well as eye examinations and consultations. Participants requiring further medical attention will receive appropriate guidance and referrals.
According to the organisers, the outreach is intended to remove financial and distance barriers that often prevent people from accessing timely healthcare, enabling women to receive essential medical attention at no cost.
The programme commenced on August 3rd with members of the Nawfia Women Development Union at the Nawfia Town Union Hall.
On August 4, separate outreaches will be held for Enugwu-Ukwu Catholic Women at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Enugwu-Ukwu Anglican Women at St. Peter’s Anglican Church.
The exercise will continue on August 6 for Nawfia Catholic Women at Ave Maria Parish, while ECDU Women Wing members will benefit on August 8 at Obu Umunri.
# Prof. Chike Osegbue of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam Anambra state, has prayed the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) to set aside his suspension by the management.
Osegbue, a professor of Political Science and a top candidate in the recent Vice Chancellor selection process, is challenging his suspension and demanding damages amounting to N2.62 billion from the Vice Chancellor and other members of the institution.
Defendants in the suit marked NICN/AWK/30/2026 are Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Governing Council of COOU, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, Prof. Kate Omenugha, Dr Agary Nwokoye, Prof. Azikiwe Onwughalu and the Registrar.
Osegbue was suspended in January, 2026 for allegedly not teaching a course Pol/PSC.811: Environmental Politics and Sustainable Development to postgraduate students.
When the matter was called up for mention, the Plaintiff through his Counsel, Kaine Ananwune, in his filing, urged the court to determine whether the students in question (2024/2025 MSC) were valid students of the school in view of the university law, academic regulations for postgraduate studies and NUC regulations.
He prayed the court to declare every disciplinary action taken against him were in defiance to relevant laws of the university and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The respondents counsel asked the leave of court to file out of time which was granted.
M.C. Udechukwu represented COOU, Prof. Kate Omenugha, Dr Agary Nwokoye and the Registrar while O.M. Ezenwa-Ohaeto represented the governing council of the university. Odinkalu and Onwualu were not represented
The presiding Judge, Hon. Justice John Targema, granted the application and adjourned the matter to November 24, 2026 for hearing.
# Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium, Onitsha, came alive on with excitement as hundreds of party supporters, youths and sports enthusiasts gathered for the grand finale of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Onitsha North and South Sports Competition, sponsored by Senator Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah, APGA Senatorial Candidate for Anambra North Senatorial District.
The event commenced with a colourful health walk through major streets in Onitsha, drawing participants from both Onitsha North and Onitsha South Local Government Areas before culminating in a thrilling grand finale at Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium.
Speaking through the activities, organisers described the sports competition as part of Senator Oduah’s continued efforts to promote youth engagement, healthy living, unity and community development across Anambra North.
The competition ended on a high note, with participants praising the initiative for encouraging sportsmanship, strengthening community bonds and creating opportunities for youth engagement.

The global observance seeks to raise awareness, encourage early diagnosis and promote access to specialised healthcare and social support for affected individuals and their families.
The commemoration underscores the need for greater public understanding of rare diseases, while advocating improved access to healthcare services, dignity, inclusion and equal opportunities for those living with such conditions.
Although the condition is uncommon, it highlights the broader importance of developing healthcare systems that respond to the needs of every citizen, regardless of the prevalence of their medical condition.
Observers noted that the programme further underscored the growing role of sports as a platform for promoting unity and grassroots participation in community development across Anambra North.
# Senator Victor Umeh, who represents the Anambra Central Senatorial District, has completed and handed over a newly constructed block of three classrooms to St. Albert the Great College, Agulu, in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The project, which has been fully furnished, is part of the senator’s constituency development initiatives aimed at improving educational infrastructure across Anambra Central. The classrooms are equipped with desks, whiteboards, and ceiling fans to provide a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.
Speaking on the development, the school’s management expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing it as timely and significant. According to the management, the additional classrooms will help reduce overcrowding and accommodate the school’s growing student population.
# A public school Pupil, Miss Isioma Okolie of Umuota Primary School Obosi beat 196 pupils to emerge 1st Runner up in the ‘Late Marshall Ochokwu Foundation 8th All Idemili North & South Quiz Competition for Basic 5 and 6’.
The performance of Miss Isioma Okolie who hails from Delta State attracted her a six year full scholarship for her secondary school education from Engr and Mrs Tonna Anyaeji, the Obosi Development Union ODU Chairman Benin branch, which was not part of the prizes to be won in the competition.
Speaking during the Grand finale of the Ouiz competition which was held at the weekend courtesy of Choice De Immaculate Demonstration School (CIDS) Obosi, the Proprietor/ Foundation Director, Engr Solomy Ochokwu revealed that since the inception of the competition, no pupil from a public school has ever scaled through the 1st round of the keenly contested Ouiz competition.
According to Ochokwu, 198 pupils from 28 schools registered individualy for the 1st round of qualifiers which held on June 26, 2026. Today, 41 pupils out of 12 schools made it to this Grand Finale which produced five prize winners.
“Master Chukwuemeka David of Maria Ines School Obosi from Ugamuma village Obosi, Anambra State emerged overall winner. He received #150,000 for 1st Prize, sponsored by CIDS.
“Miss Isioma Okolie of Umuota primary School Obosi won 2nd Prize of #100,000 sponsored by Engr and Mrs Tonna Anyaeji. Miss Delight Agubuesi of Maria Ines school Obosi from Imo State won 3rd prize of #50,000 sponsored by Amb. Chuma Nwike.
“Master Luke Chijindu of CIDS from Okpuno Umuota Obosi, Anambra State clinched the 4th Prize of #30,000 while another CIDS pupil, Miss Mercy Idris from Kogi State won the 5th prize of #20,000.
Consolation Prizes for the first 30 pupils include 30 school bags worth #600,000 Sponsored by Engr Eric Anyamene. 30 mathematical sets and Exercise Books worth #200,000.
In his speech Engr Ochokwu said that the Late Marshal Ochokwu Foundation Quiz started exactly 8vyears ago with about 7 Primary Schools as an All Obosi Primary School quiz competition in commemoration of his late father.
“The 3rd edition In 2021 was broadened to All Idemili North Quiz. However based on interests from more schools it was broadened and named in 2023 as All Idemili North and South Quiz Competitions.
“The idea is to encourage the spirit of Competition amongst pupils of Primary schools which is currently lacking in Anambra state as this quiz is encompassing. It involves the Basic foundational subjects of Maths , English and Sciences and has a unique transparency as Teachers of participating schools sets the question on the spot,” said Ochokwu.
