The number of casualties was yet to be ascertained.
When ANN visited the scene, men of the Anambra state Fire Service and some good spirited individuals were seen battling with the inferno to reduce damage in the area.
Officers and men of Road Safety Corps and Anambra Traffic Management Agency, as well as officials of Awka Capital Territory Development Agency, ACTDA, were also on ground to ensure safety of road users in the area.
The incident caused a heavy gridlock on all the routes connecting to the Enugu/Onitsha expressway, as people scampered for safety.
As at the time of filing this report, the major cause of the inferno could not be ascertained.
Also, cars parked in the petrol station were gutted in the issuing inferno.
Angel Network News gathered that a 4year old child was knocked down by a speed car during the explosion as people run for their safety.
The fire was still raging at the time of writing this report.
