Musiala Diagnosed With Neurological Condition After Second Collapse

Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has been diagnosed with temporary absence seizures linked to a neurological dysfunction after collapsing during a match for the second time in four days.

The 23-year-old German international collapsed six minutes after coming on as a substitute in Bayern’s 4-2 pre-season friendly victory away to Heidenheim on Tuesday. He appeared dazed while receiving treatment and was helped from the pitch.

The incident followed a similar episode during Saturday’s 3-1 home friendly win over RB Leipzig.

Musiala later issued a statement on Instagram to address concerns. “I’ve been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction,” he said.

“These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim. I know they seem scary at first glance — but for me, they’re currently just part of my everyday life.

“I’m receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed after the Heidenheim match that the club was aware of the situation. “We knew about it and we are aware of the situation,” he said. “Jamal will speak out.”

Musiala had returned to full fitness earlier this year after missing the first six months of last season with a broken ankle sustained at the 2025 Club World Cup. He featured in three of Germany’s four matches at the 2026 World Cup.
