Sowore Criticises Adeleke Family Over Osun Politics, Tinubu Endorsement

African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has described Nigerian politicians as “evil” and accused the family of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of treating the state as a personal “jackpot,” while condemning the governor’s swift endorsement of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking in a recent interview, Sowore said singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and a relative of the governor, had himself concluded that politicians are untrustworthy.

“Even Davido himself has now stated that politicians are evil and he won’t have anything to do with politics after this one. The only reason he got involved in this one is because his family is involved,” Sowore said. “They are using Osun State as their jackpot… Politicians are evil including his uncle.”

Sowore singled out Governor Adeleke’s decision to back Tinubu’s re-election bid shortly after winning the Osun governorship poll as a major error. “The biggest mistake Gov Ademola was endorsing Tinubu after winning the election,” he said.

He also questioned the governor’s reported justification for the endorsement on ethnic grounds. “How can you say you endorse Tinubu because he is Yoruba? Are Osun State and all voters all Yorubas? And the people that died aren’t they Yorubas?” Sowore asked, referring to fatalities recorded during election-related violence.

“This is why I said he has nothing upstairs,” he added, reiterating earlier criticism of the governor’s capacity.

Sowore further asked what accountability existed for those killed in the violence surrounding the poll, arguing that political actors had prioritised power and family interests over the lives lost. The comments form part of ongoing exchanges between Sowore and members of the Adeleke family following the Osun election results.
