# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Nnanna Oji Ama after a two hour closed-door strategic meeting with the Command’s and operational officers as part of ongoing efforts to reassess information from the public especially within Awka to strengthen security operations and sustain the fight against violent crime, paid a condolence visit to the family of late Isaac Nwosu, who lost his life in a recent security incident in Awka.
The CP notes that the late Isaac Nwosu popularly known as Azia is an asset to the State and says he will be greatly missed not only to the family but also by the State, Anambra State Police Command, especially for his service during the Command security advocacy as well as other sundry
To this end, the CP further directed the relevant operational and investigative units to intensify efforts towards identifying and apprehending the perpetrators. He reassured the family and residents of Anambra State that the Command would pursue the matter with determination and while urging Ndi Anambra to keep believing in the interigty of the force and investigative preceding
over the unfortunate incident.
# Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, has charged operatives of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade to remain at the forefront of the state government’s efforts to combat environmental degradation.
Dr. Aguiyi gave the charge on Monday during a working visit and facility tour of the OCHA Brigade headquarters, where he reminded the operatives of the responsibility for which the agency was established.
The Commissioner said the law establishing the OCHA Brigade specifically designated it as the state’s environmental police, responsible for enforcing environmental laws and regulations.
He said the state government was committed to strengthening the brigade and ensuring that its personnel remained dedicated to their duties, noting that the task of protecting the environment was enormous and required sustained commitment.
Aguiyi said Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s declaration of a state of emergency on the environment during activities marking Anambra’s 35th anniversary required the Ministry of Environment and the OCHA Brigade to review and strengthen their implementation and enforcement plans.
According to him, the renewed efforts would focus on sanitation, drainage and runoff water management, illegal sand mining and excavation, deforestation, as well as proper waste disposal and management in markets, streets and residential areas.
The Acting Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, Mr. Anthony Agbaefuna, who was represented by the Head of Operations, Mr. Kenneth Ebochina, later conducted the Commissioner on a tour of the brigade’s facilities.
# The Anambra State Ministry of Transport has directed all delivery and courier companies operating motorcycles in the state to obtain a Digital Motorcycle Waiver Certificate and Sticker, making the documentation mandatory for their operations.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Michael Anaekwe, disclosed this, explaining that the measure is aimed at strengthening regulation, promoting road safety and improving accountability among motorcycle delivery operators.
According to him, companies can obtain the waiver certificate and sticker through the Ministry’s online platform or by visiting its office at the Ground Floor, Block C, Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, where operators will receive guidance on the registration process.
The ministry directed motorcycle delivery riders to wear crash helmets, customised reflective vests and appropriate footwear while operating on public roads.
It warned riders against carrying passengers alongside delivery items and engaging in reckless driving, stressing that responsible riding is essential to protecting road users and reducing accidents associated with logistics operations.
The inspection focused on the hospital’s clinical facilities, equipment, personnel and other resources required to support the proposed programmes in Radiography, Optometry, Environmental Health, Public Health and Physiotherapy.
Receiving the NUC Resource Persons, the Chief Medical Director of COOUTH, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, said the exercise was an important step in strengthening the relationship between the university and its teaching hospital.
Representing the Chief Medical Director, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Ifeoma Njelita, welcomed the team and described COOU and COOUTH as “Siamese twins,” emphasising the close collaboration between both institutions in medical education, clinical training, research and healthcare delivery.
According to her, the verification exercise could further enhance the development of COOUTH and support Dr. Umeakuewulu’s vision of transforming the teaching hospital into a centre of global excellence.
The proposed programmes are expected to expand opportunities for students seeking careers in different areas of health sciences while strengthening the pool of skilled professionals available to contribute to healthcare delivery.
The university management has reaffirmed its commitment to providing the facilities, qualified personnel, strategic partnerships and conducive learning environment required for the programmes to meet NUC standards.
The NUC team explained that the exercise was designed to objectively assess existing resources and identify areas requiring improvement before the programmes are established.
# The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a popular Awka-based master of ceremonies, comedian, DJ and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as “Aiza,” alongside another person in separate gun attacks in Awka, the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, disclosed this in a statement, saying the attacks occurred when three unidentified gunmen travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla allegedly attacked two persons at separate locations in Awka.
According to Ikenga, the Command received distress information about the attacks and immediately mobilised patrol teams to the affected areas in an attempt to track down the assailants.
The bodies of the victims were recovered at Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, Awka, respectively, and taken to a hospital where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The Police identified one of the victims as Isaac Nwosu, while the identity of the second victim was yet to be ascertained as of the time of the statement.
The PPRO added that police operatives recovered N7,550, one ATM card and a pair of slippers from the two crime scenes.
Reacting to the killings, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the attacks, describing them as unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the state.
The Commissioner directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
He also ordered security operatives to intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining areas as efforts to apprehend the perpetrators continue.
The Command appealed to community leaders, residents, motorists, business owners and other members of the public who may have witnessed the incidents or have credible information about the assailants, their movements or the vehicle used in the attacks to come forward.
It assured the public that all information provided to the Police would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
The Police Command further urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies, stressing that community partnership remains essential to effective policing.

# Women living with HIV under the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Anambra State Chapter, have received empowerment support, including equipment and financial assistance, courtesy of the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo.
The intervention is aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of the beneficiaries, promoting financial independence and ensuring that women living with HIV are supported to live productive and dignified lives.
Speaking during the engagement, the Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), Dr. Nkem Okeke, appreciated the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for providing the leadership and enabling environment that continue to strengthen the state’s HIV response.
He also expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo for her compassion and sustained commitment to the welfare and empowerment of vulnerable women across Anambra State, describing the intervention as a practical demonstration of support beyond healthcare.
Dr. Okeke disclosed that ANSACA is working towards establishing a dedicated Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Centre for women living with HIV, where beneficiaries can receive practical training in fashion designing, baking and other viable income-generating skills.
According to him, HIV care must go beyond access to treatment to include interventions that address economic vulnerability, stigma and social exclusion.
# ‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. # ‎A trailer loaded with goods worth millions of naira has crashed at the Agulu Lake Bridge in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, leaving one person injured.
‎
‎The accident occurred when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle while approaching the bridge.
‎
‎The driver, whose name was withheld, attributed the crash to brake failure which occurred while he was descending the Nwagu hilly road. According to him, he made several attempts to control the trailer, but the brake problem persisted until he eventually lost control of the vehicle at the Agulu Lake Bridge, causing it to crash.
‎
‎The trailer was reportedly conveying goods estimated to be worth millions of naira and had four occupants at the time of the incident the driver, two conductors and a woman.

‎No life was lost in the accident. However, one of the male occupants sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

# The National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Team has inspected facilities at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, as part of the process for assessing five proposed health science programmes at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU).
