The Youth Wing of the Anambra State Town Unions Council (ASTUC), led by its National President, Comrade Ken Okoli, has recognised outstanding role models drawn from the ten communities in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The honourees were recognised for their contributions to community service, rural development, humanity and the advancement of their respective communities.
The community role models, who were nominated from the ten communities that make up Anaocha Local Government Area, attended the event at Neni Town Hall with supporters who identified them as their role models based on their legacies and contributions to their families, communities and society at large.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, commended the ASTUC Youth Wing for its efforts at youth re-orientation and for encouraging young people to channel their energies towards positive and productive endeavours.
Ibekwe said his administration prioritises youth development, noting that it had conducted the first and second phases of its skills acquisition programme, through which youths were trained and empowered in line with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
He disclosed that another skills acquisition building would be commissioned at Akweze and Neni the following week, stressing that the initiative was aimed at equipping young people with the skills needed to become self-reliant and productive.
The Mayor promised to continue to lead the youths towards the path of righteousness and encouraged them to remain focused, dedicated and steadfast in their endeavours, so as to uphold the vision of Anambra State as the “Light of the Nation.”
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, who chaired the programme, noted that Governor Soludo had invested significantly in youth development across the state.
According to him, the administration’s interventions include free education, improved access to healthcare and other social programmes designed to equip youths to become responsible citizens and good ambassadors of the state.
The National President of the ASTUC Youth Wing, Comrade Ken Okoli, said the programme was organised to celebrate individuals who had contributed significantly to the development and progress of Anaocha.
Okoli stressed that the recognition was not merely about presenting awards, but about celebrating individuals whose positive impact and community service had earned them the respect and admiration of their people.
He also commended Governor Soludo for strengthening security in the state through the Homeland Security Law, saying the improved security environment had created greater opportunities for youths to pursue productive ventures and contribute meaningfully to society.
Some of the recognised role models, including Barrister Chukwudi Oli, Dr. Gerald Ozoh, Barrister Ndubisi Obiadi and Hon. Ikeobi Ejiofor, in their separate remarks, pledged to continue supporting initiatives aimed at improving the lives of youths.
They also charged young people to shun acts capable of jeopardising their future and encouraged them to embrace hard work, discipline and positive values.
The programme climaxed with the presentation of awards to the recognised role models, alongside cultural displays and other side attractions.
