# The Anambra State Police Command has participated in a specialised arms drill and operational readiness exercise aimed at enhancing officers’ weapon-handling skills, operational discipline and tactical coordination.
The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Miller Gajere Dantawaye, in charge of the Police Supervisory Zone comprising Anambra and Enugu States.
The training was designed to strengthen officers’ competence in weapon handling, operational coordination and adherence to established tactical and safety procedures, in line with the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining a professionally responsive and operationally prepared workforce.
Participating personnel underwent practical drills covering safe weapon handling, arms drill, discipline, coordination and strict compliance with prescribed operational procedures.
Particular emphasis was placed on precision, controlled response, professional conduct and adherence to safety standards in the deployment of police personnel and equipment.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended AIG Dantawaye for the initiative, describing continuous professional development as a critical component of operational effectiveness and responsible policing.
CP Oji Ama charged officers and men of the Command to translate the competencies acquired during the exercise into improved field performance, while maintaining strict compliance with the law, Force policies and established Standard Operating Procedures.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to building a disciplined, professionally competent and operationally prepared workforce capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges and safeguarding lives and property across Anambra State.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, received back its representative, SC Ngozi Okoye, who participated in the just-concluded two-day National Capacity Building Workshop for the Female Special Force (FSF) held on the 2nd and 3rd of September 2026 at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.
SC Ngozi was formally received by the State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, at the State Command Headquarters, Awka. The reception underscores the Command’s commitment to strengthening operational capacity through knowledge transfer and continuous training of personnel.
Welcoming SC Ngozi back, Commandant Maku Olatunde commended the Commandant General for the initiative and charged the officer to step down the knowledge gained to other officers in the Command. He reiterated the Command’s resolve to support the FSF in Anambra State in enhancing intelligence gathering, protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), and community security.
Appreciating the State Commandant for sponsoring her to the capacity workshop, SC Ngozi Okoye, the NSCDC Anambra State Command Female Special Force Commander, reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to safeguarding CNAI and embedding data-driven intelligence into field operations.
She expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting her zeal for professionalism, practical leadership, critical thinking, crime prevention, and the ability to deliver on her assigned mandate.
# The Chief Magistrate Court in Nnewi has granted a police application for the remand of James Okoye Ebube, popularly known as Jaluo or Akachaam, in connection with allegations of conspiracy and cybercrime.
The matter, filed as Suit No. Nmd/MSC.279/2026, Motion No. MN/939/2026, was brought ex parte by the Commissioner of Police against Okoye under Sections 130(1)(3)(a)(b) and 132(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Anambra State, 2022.
Police counsel A. N. Obo, Esq., of the Nigeria Police Force Legal Department, Zone 13, Ukpo, moved the application seeking Okoye’s remand at the Nnewi Correctional Centre for 30 days to enable investigators to conclude their inquiries and transmit the case file to the Attorney-General of Anambra State for legal advice.
Police Affidavit Alleges Defamatory WhatsApp Messages
In a supporting affidavit deposed on September 8, 2026, at the Chief Magistrate Court Registry, Nnewi, Investigating Police Officer ASP Tijani Attai of Zone 13 Headquarters, Ukpo, stated that a formal complaint of conspiracy and cybercrime was lodged on August 19, 2026, by Mr. Okoli Innocent against Okoye and other individuals currently at large.
According to the affidavit, the investigation has established a prima facie case against the suspect. ASP Attai alleged that Okoye “knowingly and intentionally published and sent false messages” through recorded voice notes to multiple WhatsApp groups, including a Nnewi-based platform, in which he accused Mr. Okoli Innocent of being a kidnapper responsible for abduction incidents in Nnewi and surrounding areas.
The police described the publications as constituting cyber-stalking and cyber-bullying, and further stated that the messages had placed the complainant in fear of death and personal danger.
The prosecution also informed the court that the Magistrate Court lacks jurisdiction to try the alleged cybercrime offence, necessitating Okoye’s remand pending the conclusion of investigation and the filing of appropriate charges before a competent court. A photocopy of the police case file and Form 12 were submitted alongside the motion.
Certified true copies of the motion, affidavit, and written address bear the September 8, 2026, stamp of the Chief Magistrate Court, Nnewi, and were certified by Okwara D.U., Deputy Director.
The court documents confirm that the active allegation before the court pertains to a police complaint of conspiracy and cybercrime arising from voice notes circulated on WhatsApp concerning Mr. Okoli Innocent.
The 30-day remand sought by the police is for investigative purposes and the procurement of the Attorney-General’s legal advice; it does not constitute a conviction. Okoye remains a suspect, and no court has yet pronounced him guilty.
Okoye, also known as Ebube Anaedo, was arrested in Nnewi on Saturday, September 5, 2026, by local vigilante operatives while performing what he described as a ritual cleansing of the land. He first drew national attention on January 14, 2026, when he walked out of the dedication of the Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral and publicly renounced his Christian faith.
# The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has advised residents of riverine communities across Anambra State to remain vigilant and be prepared to relocate to higher ground should the water level of the River Niger rise beyond the safe limit.
NEMA, in collaboration with the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society, inspected the water level of the River Niger as part of ongoing efforts to assess the flood situation and strengthen disaster preparedness in the state.
The Head of NEMA’s Enugu Operations Office, Mrs. Priscilla Madukwe, gave the warning during a monitoring visit to the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), where the team inspected the water gauge to ascertain the current water level and assess the possibility of flooding in vulnerable riverine communities.
Madukwe said the water level of the River Niger was gradually rising but remained within the safe limit at the time of the assessment.
She, however, urged residents and relevant stakeholders to remain alert and avoid activities that could increase the risk of flooding in vulnerable communities.
According to her, the monitoring exercise is part of proactive measures by NEMA and its partners to track developments around the River Niger and provide early warning information to communities that could be affected if the water level continues to rise.
She stressed that regular monitoring of the water gauge was essential because timely information on rising water levels would enable emergency management authorities to identify potential threats early and activate appropriate response mechanisms before the situation becomes critical.
Madukwe urged residents of riverine communities, particularly those living close to the River Niger and other flood-prone areas, to pay attention to official information from emergency management authorities and be ready to move to safer locations whenever necessary.
She emphasized that early preparedness was crucial to reducing the impact of disasters, urging residents not to wait until floodwaters entered their homes or communities before taking precautionary measures.
The NEMA official added that information gathered during the monitoring exercise would assist NEMA, SEMA, the Nigerian Red Cross Society and other stakeholders in strengthening their preparedness plans and making timely decisions should the water level rise beyond the established safe threshold.
Madukwe appealed to residents to remain calm but vigilant, cooperate with emergency management authorities and take necessary precautionary measures.
She assured the public that relevant agencies would continue to monitor the River Niger closely and provide updates whenever significant changes were observed.
# The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has taken steps to consolidate its political structure in Aguata Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Party stakeholders from the ward and local government levels met at the residence of Hon. Tim Egboka in Umuchu to harmonise strategies and strengthen coordination between candidates and party structures.
The meeting had in attendance Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, NDC candidate for Anambra South Senatorial District; Hon. Andy Azike, candidate for Aguata Federal Constituency; Hon. Ikechukwu Umenwa, candidate for Aguata 1 State Constituency; and Hon. Ezeife Agbachukwu, candidate for Aguata 2 State Constituency.
Also present was the Anambra State NDC Chairman, Hon. Ikem Uzoezie, the Aguata Local Government Chairman of the party,Hon. Nonso Okeke alongside members of the party’s executive committees across the wards and the local government.
Discussions at the meeting centered on mobilisation, party unity, and presenting a common front for the 2027 polls.
Various stakeholders also gave messages of support at the event.
Speaking at the meeting, Chief Onunkwo urged party officials and stakeholders to run a robust campaign devoid of confrontation with the opposition APGA. He further charged them to remain vigilant and resolve to defend their votes.
The Umuchu meeting signals the NDC’s early move to align its ward and LGA structures with its candidates and build a coordinated platform for its activities in Aguata ahead of 2027.
# St. John’s Methodist Church, Odume Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, has held its children’s fasting and prayer programme, aimed at guiding children toward godly living and responsible adulthood today.
The three-day camping programme, organised annually at the church auditorium, provides children with ample opportunity to fast, pray, learn, worship, build friendships, and deepen their relationship with God through fellowship.
The central message of the programme was bringing children closer to God while young, teaching them values and principles that will guide their decisions, behaviour, and relationships as responsible adults.
Speaking during the programme, the Children’s Superintendent, Miss Ngozi Azuanuka, said early spiritual upbringing remained essential, urging parents to encourage their children to participate actively in fasting and prayer activities.
Miss Azuanuka explained that the programme teaches children how to fast, pray, obey God’s word, and develop habits that can strengthen their faith, character, and commitment as they mature spiritually.
Similarly, the Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Ezinwanne Theophilus, described the programme as a significant gathering that brings children together, enabling them to learn new things and grow stronger spiritually each year.
She appealed to parents who have not been allowing their children to participate to reconsider, stressing that the programme offers valuable lessons capable of benefiting the children and their future.
Another teacher in the Children’s Department, Mrs. Ifeoma Obasi, said proper guidance was necessary to protect young people from negative influences, including crime, substance abuse, trafficking, prostitution, and other dangers.
Mrs. Obasi therefore urged parents and society to catch children young, instilling sound values and faith, so they can grow into responsible citizens who contribute positively to peaceful communities everywhere.

# Anambra State Government has directed traders at Ogbo Ogwu market to submit and work with the Caretaker committee instituted by the state government.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Mr Nonso Ebeonwu gave the directive while addressing stakeholders of the market in his office at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka.
The Commissioner noted that state government can no longer allow any parallel leadership in the market, and cautioned those forming another leadership to stop forthwith, regretting that the last meeting they held in that regards where they were told to put their house in order yielded no positive results.
He maintained that this will be the last meeting he will have with them in terms of their excesses and thwarting Governor Chukwuma Soludo ‘s directive, and urged the Chairman to work with all stakeholders in the market in the fight against fake, adulterated and hard drugs.
In their separate speeches, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Pharmaceutical, Pharmacist Godwin Nnadozie, and representative of Udogachi Security Outfit, Mr Chike Ezenduka advised the traders to put their house in order in their own interest as according to them, the only recognised body in the market is the Caretaker committee led by Mr Chukwuleta Ndubuisi, and warned that government will not hesitate to close down the market if they are bent on causing problems in the state, and announced that their permanent site in Oba will soon be completed.
Also speaking, the Head of NAFDAC for Anambra State, Mr Louis Mmadugwachaa noted that the efforts of the agency to fight adulterated and fake drugs last year has been destroyed because such drugs have found their way back into the market, and cautioned that business can not overshadow the professional regulation of the drugs.
In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Commerce, Engineer Michael Obiekwe appreciated the traders for coming, and urged them to adhere to the directive of the government for the good of all involved.
The Chairman Caretaker committee, Mr Ndubuisi said that he has opened hands of fellowship to all to no avail, and explained that he will continue to fight indiscipline, improve the revenue generation and remitt same to government coffers, urging all market stakeholders to join hands with his committee in the interest of the market.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, has announced its preparedness for a watertight security on Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure during the official visit of the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Anambra State on Thursday.
The Head of Media and Tactical Operations of the Command, Superintendent of Corps, Edwin Okadigbo, made this known in Awka while briefing the press at the State Command Headquarters Awka.
Okadigbo disclosed that already visibility patrols had been activated across all the designated venues of the first Lady’s engagement across the state to assure residents of their security, adding that there will be total security coverage before, during and after the visit.
According to him, the NSCDC State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde in an operational order released for the visit has charged Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Composite Commanders and Tactical Unit heads to implement proactive measures to safeguard all Critical Assets and Infrastructure, the high-profile visitor, VIPs, and members of the public during the event.
He charged personnel deployed for the operation to be on red alert and to complement the existing security architecture to ensure comprehensive coverage for a seamless and hitch-free visit.
He further disclosed that the Command had put in place robust security measures and has harmonized its operational plans with other sister security agencies to guarantee a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the visit.

# The Anambra State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ben Odoemena said that the State will soon become agro-industrialized area which will also mechanize its farming sytestm as well as targets to get fourteen thousand hectares of palm plantation farms.
Dr. Odoemena who made this known while speaking to newsmen at his office in Awka, noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo mandated the ministry to agro-industrialized Anambra, and to be able to achieve that, the ministry has set out clear programmes which one of them is to transform the State into a big commercial agricultural city, and that they are going to be promoting a plantation agriculture and ensure that the private sector participates in the agricultural implementation in Anambra.
Dr. Odoemena further noted that to also achieve their mandate, they will develop a strong raw materials base for investors whom he said that many of them have indicated interests to join in the agro-business, which is why there is a strong need for the development of raw materials, saying that they will make sure that Anambra is self-sufficient in food production.
He further emphasized that the state government will ensure that jobs are created through agriculture and that they are emphasizing strongly in market driven agriculture where they will create a market system that will drive production and it will be strongly driven by the private sector.
According to the Commissioner, the ministry will promote cassava and rice processing facilities across the State, as well as livestock processing, packaging and market centres to make market available for the farmers and that they will equally promote a competitive all-round farming.
The agric commissioner revealed that Governor Soludo is pressing on the use of improved high-yielding varieties to ensure efficient and effective food production, and that they will enhance institutions that will guarantee the sustainability of mechanized farming, as government is considering the establishment of (Mechanization Service Centres) in each of the agricultural zones in the State, noting that they will come up with climate smart solution to mitigate the effects of climate change for the farmers.
He further added that they want to create modern abbatoirs as well as faculties that can pull ten thousand birds a day, as well as having at least fourteen thousand hectares of oil palm plantation.
# The Anambra South Senatorial candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, has vowed to facilitate the industrialisation of Nigeria if elected, through the sponsorship of bills and motions aimed at improving power supply, infrastructure and security.
Onunkwo, who is the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Seahorse, stated this during an interaction with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, who were on a facility tour of his company in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area (LGA).
The senatorial hopeful said improved power supply would provide an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, noting that reliable electricity was critical to industrial growth and economic development.
According to him, addressing insecurity and providing good road networks would reduce the challenges faced by businesses in production and distribution, while improving their access to raw materials, customers and markets, particularly in the Southeast geopolitical zone.
He said he would also sponsor bills to promote the Igba Boyi, or Igbo apprenticeship model, as well as legislation to enable the Federal Government to establish industrial clusters and provide credit facilities to businesses and entrepreneurs.
He added that such measures would encourage more people to acquire skills, invest in businesses and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Onunkwo, who regretted that many businesses had shut down across the country due to challenges which he described as surmountable, said addressing those challenges would enable existing businesses to survive, attract new investments, create jobs and help tackle insecurity.
The senatorial candidate further reiterated his commitment to providing scholarships to students across the communities and the seven local government areas that make up the constituency and beyond.
He said his continued investment in education was informed by his belief that empowering the younger generation through education remained one of the most effective ways of securing the future.
