LP Distances Itself From Arabambi’s Lawsuit On Obi Credentials

The Labour Party on Monday disowned its former National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi, who has filed lawsuits seeking access to the academic and service records of National Democratic Congress presidential candidate Peter Obi.

In a statement, the party’s National Publicity Secretary Ken Asogwa said Arabambi was no longer a member of the Labour Party. He was among 25 members suspended by the National Executive Council in March for alleged anti-party activities, a decision later ratified by the National Convention on April 28, 2026.

“While the Labour Party wishes to refrain from commenting on the substance or otherwise of the litigant’s case before the court, particularly as Mr Peter Obi is not a member of the Party, we wish to notify the general public that Abayomi Arabambi is not a member of the Labour Party,” Asogwa said.

He added that no party organ had reversed the expulsion of the affected members.

The party warned against any claim by Arabambi that he represented it.

“If Arabambi has presented himself to the public as a chieftain or representative of the Labour Party, the general public is hereby notified that such representation is entirely unauthorised and, prima facie, amounts to impersonation,” Asogwa stated.

Labour Party lawyers are reviewing the matter and may petition law enforcement authorities.

Arabambi filed three suits at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the West African Examinations Council, the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the National Youth Service Corps under the Freedom of Information Act. He is seeking official records relating to certificates allegedly issued to Obi, while stating he is not asking the court to rule on whether the documents submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission are genuine or forged.

The clarification came a day after the NDC rejected the suits and challenged Arabambi to produce evidence of any questions over Obi’s academic credentials.
