# The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Prof. Victor Ndirika, has charged contractors handling projects at the institution to prioritise quality workmanship, adhere strictly to approved specifications and ensure timely completion of projects.
Prof. Ndirika gave the charge during an interactive meeting with contractors and the TETFund consultant, Arc. Chidi Okoli of Clinarc Associates, at the College.
The meeting focused on the quality, progress and assessment of ongoing and completed projects, as well as compliance with construction standards and the maintenance of existing facilities.
The provost commended the Deputy Director of Works and Services, Engr. Nnamdi Onyili, for his supervisory role in TETFund projects and appreciated Arc. Okoli for his continued support and technical guidance to the institution.
He urged contractors to adhere strictly to approved designs, plans and specifications, warning against unauthorised alterations capable of compromising the quality and durability of projects.
Prof. Ndirika stressed that compliance with approved designs was essential to ensuring durable structures, reducing maintenance costs and safeguarding the lives and property of staff and students.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra Sector Command have identified a suspected Stolen Tricycle (TVS KING) through FRSC National Vehicle Identification scheme (NVIS).
The development occurred after a staff member of the Anambra State Motor Vehicle Authority presented documents to register and upload a TVS King tricycle on the NVIS portal in the name of Rev. Fr. Ikezuе Jeremiah Chinuogu, of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka Diocese, Anambra State.
During the verification process, the NVIS Desk Officer discovered that the tricycle had previously been registered in the FRSC database, prompting further investigation.
The existing registered owner, Mr. Okoye Obiwenite of Ikenga Ogidi, was contacted to ascertain whether the vehicle had been legally sold or transferred. He explained that he had given the tricycle to Mr. Aniagbaoso Nnamdi Chigozie on hire purchase.
According to SRC Margaret Onabe, spokesperson Anambra FRSC, in an press release, further inquiry revealed that the tricycle had reportedly been stolen on 27th December, 2025, after Mr. Chigozie parked it at his residence.
The recovered tricycle is currently secured at the FRSC Anambra State Sector Command, RS5.3, while the persons connected with the transaction have been handed over to the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of the Nigeria Police Force for questioning and further investigation.
Reacting, the Anambra State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, commends the effectiveness of the NVIS verification process, which played a significant role in detecting the discrepancy and preventing the suspected stolen vehicle from being unlawfully registered.
She therefore urges members of the public to always conduct proper verification of vehicle particulars and ownership before purchasing or transferring vehicles, as this will help prevent the acquisition of stolen vehicles and assist law-enforcement agencies in combating vehicle-related crimes.
# The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), in collaboration with the Anyansi Family, has taken free HIV testing, hepatitis screening, TB screening and other preventive health services directly to residents of Abagana, Njikoka LGA.
The two-day outreach, held at Amaenye Village Hall and the Abagana Welfare Union Secretariat, provided residents with free HIV testing and counselling, hepatitis screening, TB symptom screening, blood pressure checks and health education.
President General of the Abagana Welfare Union, Sir Linus Okafor described the outreach as a welcome development and commended ANSACA and the Anyansi Family for bringing essential health services closer to the people.
He particularly appreciated Mr Nonso Anyansi for facilitating the intervention and encouraged other well-meaning individuals and families to support initiatives that improve the health and welfare of their communities.
Beneficiaries also expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his administration’s commitment to accessible community-based healthcare.
ANSACA at the event maintained that the Abagana outreach is part of its commitment to taking HIV prevention, testing, early detection, health education and linkage to care directly to communities across Anambra State, noting that government cannot do it alone and that partnerships with families, communities, organisations and individuals can help reach more people and save more lives.
# The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) House of Representatives Candidate for Idemili North/South Federal Constituency, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu has called on the people of the constituency to unite behind a common vision of progress, declaring that the future of Idemili North/South rests in the hands of its people.

# A rural elder, Mr Alloysius Okpalobi, has called on the media, particularly radio and television stations, to intensify voter education in local languages ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Okpalobi made the call during an interaction with Information Officers at Akpo in Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.
He stressed the need for greater civic awareness, saying voters should be adequately informed about their rights and responsibilities before, during and after elections.
According to him, although candidates certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are qualified to contest, the responsibility of choosing the most suitable candidate rests with the electorate.
He attributed some of the challenges affecting elections to inadequate political awareness, urging stakeholders to strengthen voter education if the country must achieve better electoral outcomes in 2027.
He advised voters to understand the electoral procedures at their polling units, including the availability of the required election materials, ballot papers, ballot boxes and result sheets before voting begins.
Okpalobi encouraged voters to remain vigilant throughout the collation process and follow the results from the polling unit through the appropriate collation centres until the final results are announced.
He noted that effective participation requires voters to arrive at their polling units early enough to observe the arrival of INEC officials, ensuring that the necessary electoral materials are in place.
# Bishop Ezeokafor Inspects Projects at Tansi International College, Awka
Tansi International College (TICA), Awka, Anambra State, has recorded significant infrastructural improvements ahead of the commencement of the new academic session.
The Proprietor of the College, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, disclosed this during a working visit to the school to inspect completed and ongoing projects undertaken during the past academic session.
Among the projects inspected by the Bishop were newly constructed modern toilet facilities for students and the rehabilitation of existing toilet blocks.
Ezeokafor expressed satisfaction with the level of transformation across the school environment, particularly the initiatives aimed at improving students’ welfare and providing a more conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning.
He also inspected extensive landscaping around the hostel area and the repainting of hostel blocks, which have significantly improved the appearance and ambience of the College.
The Proprietor commended the College Management, led by Rev. Fr. Hilary Okwunalu, for its vision, commitment and dedication to transforming the school environment and enhancing the conditions for students’ academic and holistic formation.
He encouraged the management to sustain the momentum and continue prioritising projects that directly improve the welfare and educational experience of students.
According to the College, the latest infrastructural developments have further enhanced the school environment and positioned TICA to welcome students into a more conducive and improved setting as the new academic session begins.
# Rev. Fr. Innocent Chinazaekpere Uwakwe has attributed the rising cases of marriage breakdown in society to poor family upbringing, urging couples and parents to model respect, responsibility and healthy relationships for their children.
Fr. Uwakwe made the observation in a homily during Mass at a church in Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State.
The cleric said responsibility for marital challenges should not rest entirely on either partner, noting that the families and environments that shaped couples before marriage could also influence how they conduct themselves in their homes.
According to him, children who grow up in homes characterised by violence, verbal abuse or substance misuse may be more likely to adopt similar behaviours as they grow older.
Fr. Uwakwe warned parents against insulting or humiliating their spouses in the presence of their children, noting that such conduct could negatively influence the way children perceive marriage and relationships.
He equally condemned domestic violence, particularly the physical abuse of wives by their husbands, saying children who witness such acts could develop unhealthy attitudes towards the opposite sex and family life.
The priest urged couples to treat each other with dignity and mutual respect, saying a peaceful home requires commitment from both partners.
# The Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare has rescued a seven-year-old girl who was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse by her guardian in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The intervention, carried out in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, Awada Division, led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator and the placement of the child under protective care for medical attention and psychosocial support.
The girl was allegedly injured with a hot knife after she was accused of taking meat from a cooking pot.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Mrs. Ogechi Ofoma, was arrested by the police on Sunday evening and is currently being detained at the Awada Police Station, pending further investigation. She is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, condemned the alleged abuse, describing it as inhumane and a gross violation of the rights, dignity and safety of a child.
Mrs. Onyekesi commended the Nigeria Police Force for its prompt response and swift arrest of the suspect, stressing that effective collaboration between security agencies and social welfare authorities was essential in tackling cases involving vulnerable persons.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the state government under the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to creating a safe environment where children can grow free from violence, abuse and exploitation.
The Commissioner warned that anyone found culpable of violating the rights of children would face the full weight of the law.
She also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of child maltreatment, molestation, neglect or any other threats to the safety and wellbeing of children to the appropriate authorities.
Mrs. Onyekesi assured residents that the state government would continue to strengthen its child-protection interventions and collaborate with relevant agencies to safeguard the rights, dignity and welfare of women and children across Anambra State.
# The Health Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN) has commenced an assessment of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, as a clinical training site for Paul University, Awka’s Health Information Management Programme.
The assessment forms part of the accreditation process, with final approval by the HRORBN still pending.
The exercise focused on the hospital’s facilities, manpower and professional standards required to provide practical training for students of the programme.
Through its partnership with Paul University, COOUTH provides the clinical environment where Health Information Management students acquire practical experience in hospital records management, health information processes and other related professional duties, complementing their academic training at the university.
Receiving the HRORBN assessment team on behalf of the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, the Deputy Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Dr. Ifeoma Njelita, welcomed the officials and expressed satisfaction with the growing partnership between COOUTH and Paul University.
Dr. Njelita said the relationship had continued to progress, particularly following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covering areas including clinical training and professional development.
# The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has commended the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, for his outstanding evangelical and ecumenical contributions to the growth and development of the Diocese.
Udeze, in a goodwill message to Bishop Ezeokafor on the occasion of his 74th birthday, described the Bishop as a distinguished Prelate whose deep knowledge of theology and church administration had contributed immensely to the development of the Awka Catholic Diocese.
The message, signed by the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Rev. Emma Madu, noted that the Diocese had continued to serve as a reference point in the advancement of Catholic doctrine and worship under Bishop Ezeokafor’s leadership.
The Speaker also recalled Bishop Ezeokafor’s immense contributions to the training and formation of future Catholic priests, particularly during his tenure as Rector of St. Dominic Savio Seminary, Akpu, and St. John Bosco Seminary, Isuaniocha.
He urged other Prelates and men of God to emulate the Bishop’s sterling religious attributes, dedication and commitment to the service of God and humanity.
Udeze further called on Catholics in the Diocese to support Bishop Ezeokafor’s efforts by committing their time and God-given resources to the advancement of the Church and the service of humanity.
