The Anambra State government has awarded a contract worth 397.73 million naira for the remodelling of the Presidential Lodge at the Government House in Awka, according to official procurement records.
The contract, under the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, was awarded to O.BEN Developers Limited. It was signed on June 26, 2026, with work scheduled to begin the following day and run for 121 days until October 26, 2026.
The project was procured through a selective method and classified under works. The award criterion was listed as the “most responsive bidder,” with the procurement reference number ocds-j74acu-108889-AN/WRK/01-NG. Records identified “transparency and accountability” as the planning rationale but provided no details on the specific renovation works or components covered by the contract sum.
The award comes as the state faces renewed flooding concerns. Between January and June 2026, the government spent only 135 million naira on erosion and flood control — 2.7 percent of the 5 billion naira allocated for the intervention — leaving about 4.865 billion naira unspent, according to a review of budget performance documents.
Heavy rainfall in Awka recently triggered flooding around Ring Road in Agu Awka, leaving one person missing and six children rescued by emergency responders. Officials from the National Emergency Management Agency and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency coordinated the response, with the children taken to a teaching hospital for medical attention.
