# The Anambra State Police Command has disrupted a suspected cult-related gathering at Abagana Street, Fegge, Onitsha, following credible intelligence received by operatives of Fegge Police Station.
Acting swiftly on the information, the operatives moved to the location and arrested Chinedu Ike, aged 25 years, while other persons suspected to be members of the group reportedly fled on sighting the Police.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested suspect allegedly admitted to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
In a press statement, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer Anambra State Command, noted that following the development, the Police have immediately commenced intelligence-led efforts to identify, trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects, as well as determine their possible involvement in cult-related activities and other violent crimes within the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed the immediate transfer of the case to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit (VCRU) for discreet investigation and further necessary action.
The CP reiterated that the Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led and proactive policing strategies to disrupt cult-related activities, prevent associated acts of violence and bring persons found to be involved in such criminal activities to justice.
The Command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information that may assist the Police in identifying and apprehending the fleeing suspects.
# Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has called on residents of the state to take greater responsibility for protecting their environment as flooding and gully erosion continue to pose serious challenges across Anambra.
Speaking during an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of St. Faith, Awka, to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, Soludo said tackling the state’s environmental challenges requires collective action and cannot be left to the government alone.
The governor disclosed that the Anambra State Government had committed tens of billions of naira to flood control, erosion management and other environmental interventions, but acknowledged that the scale of the problem remained enormous.
He urged residents to move beyond complaints and actively support government efforts by taking practical steps within their homes and communities.
According to him, residents should properly manage water runoff from their compounds, desist from blocking drainage channels, regularly clear gutters and waterways, and embrace tree planting as part of broader measures to protect the environment.
# Umuawulu Kingdom in Awka South Local Government Area came alive on Saturday, September 26, 2026, as indigenes, traditional rulers, and dignitaries gathered to mark the 2026 New Yam Festival.
Among the notable guests were Senator Dr. Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, and Hon. Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu, member representing Awka North and South Federal Constituency. Both lawmakers extended warm felicitations to His Royal Highness, Igwe Joel Egwuonwu, the traditional ruler of Umuawulu, praising his leadership and commitment to preserving Igbo cultural heritage.
Speaking at the palace, Senator Umeh described the festival as “not just a celebration of agricultural bounty, but a reaffirmation of our identity as Ndi Igbo,” commending Igwe Egwuonwu for fostering unity and sustaining tradition.

# The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Barr. Sylvester Ezeokenwa, attended the Thanksgiving Mass held in honour of the late Prophet Barrister Tex Okagbue Okechukwu at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Odoakpu, Onitsha.
The APGA National Chairman, who joined the family, friends, associates and well-wishers at the Mass, used the occasion to pay tribute to the deceased and convey his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
Chief Ezeokenwa described the late Tex Okagbue Okechukwu as a committed member of APGA who served the party diligently and contributed significantly to its growth and development.
He noted that the deceased served as the National Publicity Secretary of APGA from 2019 to 2023, during which he devoted his time, energy and experience to projecting the ideals, programmes and activities of the party.
According to the APGA National Chairman, the contributions of the late former National Publicity Secretary to the party remain part of his enduring legacy, adding that his services to APGA would be remembered and appreciated by the party and its members.
# The Chairman of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, has launched a book titled Vision, Leadership, Service: Building a Greater Anaocha — A Blueprint for Transformative Governance at the Grassroots.
The book, authored by Ibekwe, documents his administration’s vision, experiences, achievements and challenges in providing grassroots leadership in Anaocha.
Speaking during the unveiling, Ibekwe said the publication was inspired by his long-held desire to leave behind an intellectual and documentary legacy for the people of Anaocha.
The local government chairman explained that the book goes beyond a catalogue of projects, noting that it examines the ideas, decisions, challenges and sacrifices that shaped his administration’s approach to grassroots governance.
Comrade Ibekwe also expressed appreciation to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for giving him the opportunity to serve the people of Anaocha, saying the responsibility enabled him to translate the administration’s broader vision into practical grassroots governance.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called for stronger strategic partnerships and greater reliance on data to reposition Special Marshals for more effective intervention in road safety operations across the country.
The call was made at the 2026 Special Marshals Zonal Conference of the FRSC Special Duties and External Relations, Special Marshals Section, Zone RS5, held at the Special Marshals Secretariat, Sector Command, Awka, Anambra State.
The conference, which brought together Special Marshals from Anambra, Edo and Delta states, was anchored on the theme: “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact through Strategic Partnership and Data-Driven Road Safety Intervention.”
