The Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, has highlighted key achievements recorded by his administration during his tenure.
Ibekwe, who spoke during the presentation of his administration’s scorecard, expressed appreciation to Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, for the opportunity to serve the people of Anaocha.
The Mayor said his administration began with environmental sanitation under the state’s Dobe Anambra Ocha initiative, followed by interventions in infrastructure, including the provision of 10 functional solar-powered boreholes across communities in the council area.
In the education sector, Ibekwe said the council distributed exercise books, school bags and other learning materials to schools, while the health sector received drugs, personnel, medical equipment and support from development partners and government agencies.
He said the council recorded improvements in primary healthcare delivery, with an ambulance awaiting commissioning and another health centre under development at Akwaeze. He added that Anaocha also received recognition for its performance in healthcare and service delivery.
On agriculture, Ibekwe said Anaocha emerged first at the state Iri Ji Festival for the second consecutive time, while women were encouraged to participate actively in farming and agricultural activities across the communities.
The Mayor identified security as another major priority of his administration, noting that Governor Soludo subsequently appointed him Chairman of Anambra Central Community Security. He said collaboration with traditional rulers and other community stakeholders also contributed to strengthening security across Anaocha.
Other achievements highlighted by Ibekwe included staff training and development, restoration of electricity, renovation of council offices, provision of water, youth empowerment programmes, establishment of skills acquisition centres, an e-automobile workshop, road projects, construction of shops and land acquisition for development projects.
He disclosed that 596 youths are currently undergoing skills training, following the empowerment of 500 youths in 2025. He added that other ongoing and completed projects include roads, industrial facilities and community development initiatives implemented through partnerships.
As his tenure draws to a close, Ibekwe urged his successor to sustain programmes focused on youth empowerment, security and the inclusion of women in development activities.
He also pledged his support for the incoming administration, calling for continuity in governance to consolidate the gains recorded and promote greater development and progress across Anaocha Local Government Area.
