The Anambra State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old man following the collapse of part of an old building being demolished in Otolo-Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred during the demolition of the building, when a section of the structure suddenly collapsed and trapped one of the workers.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives attached to the Otolo Divisional Headquarters promptly responded to the scene, cordoned off the area and commenced preliminary investigations.
The scene was also documented, while the victim, identified as Bakeru Iwal, was evacuated to the mortuary for preservation, pending autopsy and other necessary examinations.
In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said preliminary information indicated that the deceased was among the workers involved in the demolition when the structure collapsed.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally and thoroughly to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether any person bears responsibility.
The Command said appropriate action would be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
It urged members of the public to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed, assuring that further updates would be provided as necessary.
