Anambra Gov’t Targets Improved Healthcare Delivery

The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving healthcare delivery and health outcomes across the state through the implementation of a harmonised 2027 Annual Operational Plan (AOP).

The Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr JohnPaul Onyekineso, disclosed this at the end of a four-day workshop organised by the ministry for the development, harmonisation and finalisation of the 2027 AOP.

Onyekineso said the 2027 AOP had been harmonised and finalised, with a draft copy to be produced for further processing.

He explained that the workshop brought together officials from various departments of the ministry and development partners to review planned activities, identify priority areas and align the state’s health programmes with the proposed 2027 health budget.

According to him, the plan covers key areas including health infrastructure, maternal and reproductive health, health education, disease control and public sensitisation.

He added that it would also provide a framework for stronger collaboration with development partners in areas such as malaria, HIV and tuberculosis.

Onyekineso said the overall objective was to improve access to healthcare services, reduce the burden of ill health to the barest minimum and contribute to building a healthier Anambra State.

He disclosed that a monitoring template had also been developed to track the implementation of activities and ensure that planned programmes remained aligned with the 2027 health budget.

The director commended participants and development partners for their cooperation, active participation and valuable contributions throughout the four-day exercise, noting that their commitment was critical to the successful finalisation of the 2027 AOP.

Declaring the workshop closed on behalf of the Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, the Director of Administration in the ministry, Barrister. Ekene Ilozumba,  thanked participants and development partners for their support and contributions.

Ilozumba expressed confidence that the harmonised plan would provide clear direction for the implementation of priority health programmes while strengthening coordination among the ministry, its departments and development partners.

He said the plan would support the state’s efforts to improve healthcare services, strengthen health programs and achieve better health outcomes for the people of Anambra State.
