The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old man for alleged vandalism and theft of equipment from an MTN telecommunications mast in Awka.
The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, disclosed this on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Awka.
According to him, the suspect, identified as Nweke Friday Wisdom from Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested at Esther Obiakor Estate, Agu-Awka, following a distress call reporting the presence of a suspected vandal at the telecommunications mast.
Olatunde said the suspect was apprehended with items allegedly removed from the mast installation, including DC and armoured cables.
The NSCDC spokesperson, SC Okadigbo Edwin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly specialised in vandalising telecommunications masts and stealing valuable equipment.
He said the suspect had made useful confessions and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the state, warning vandals to desist from such acts or face the full consequences of the law.
It also urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities to the relevant security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial to protecting critical national assets and enhancing security across the state.
