# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, on Friday led the Deputy Governor of the state, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, alongside top government officials, security agencies and other critical stakeholders on an on-the-spot assessment of crisis-affected areas in Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities.
The visit formed part of ongoing efforts to stabilise the situation, safeguard lives and property, and maintain law and order in the affected communities.
Speaking during the assessment, the Deputy Governor urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth organisations, town unions and other stakeholders to work closely with the government and security agencies towards achieving lasting peace in the area.
He reiterated that security was a shared responsibility that required the cooperation, commitment and support of all stakeholders.
Also speaking, the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that residents could carry out their legitimate activities without fear.
CP Nnanna Oji Ama called on the people of Aguleri and Umuoba Anam to remain calm and refrain from actions capable of escalating the situation.
He also urged residents to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies by providing credible and timely information that could assist ongoing security operations and peace-building efforts.
# Troops of the Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA, have intensified offensive operations against terrorist and criminal networks in the South East, dismantling a hideout used by terrorists and rescuing three kidnapped victims in Anambra State.
The operation, conducted by troops of 185 Battalion in conjunction with the Anambra Vigilante Group, underscores the Nigerian Army’s sustained efforts to disrupt terrorist networks, deny them freedom of action and protect communities across the region.
Following the abduction of three persons around Osakwa General Area in Ihiala Local Government Area, troops of Operation UDO KA, working with the Anambra Vigilante Group, conducted a rescue operation and successfully recovered the victims.
Acting on the intelligence, combined troops launched an operation to the identified location, employing canoes to cross the waterways and access the terrorist hideout.
# The Anambra State Government has moved to strengthen safety standards in boarding schools, ordering structural integrity tests on school hostels across the state to identify potential building defects, ensuring that students are accommodated in safe and sound facilities.
The decision was taken at the 14th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting held at the Light House, Awka.
According to a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, the testing will involve the state’s Materials Testing Laboratory, which is to be upgraded to provide the technical capacity required to assess the condition and structural integrity of hostel facilities.
The law establishing the laboratory will also be strengthened to support reliable and consistent testing.
The assessment is intended to provide government with technical information on the condition of school hostels, helping to identify facilities requiring attention and guide decisions on necessary repairs, rehabilitation or other safety measures. This places the physical safety of students at the centre of decisions concerning boarding facilities.
ANSEC clarified that Uga Boys Smart Boarding Secondary School remains open for admission. Demand for day-student places has exceeded available capacity, while boarding spaces remain available.
# Residents of Ubaha Village, Nnobi, are set to enjoy improved access to a reliable source of clean water following the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole by the Mayor of Idemili South Local Government Area (LGA), Hon. Mrs. Amaka Obi.
The facility was commissioned at Ubaha Village Hall by Mrs. Obi, alongside the Mayor elect, Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu, with other community leaders and stakeholders in attendance.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Obi described the project as a direct investment in the wellbeing of residents, stressing that access to safe water is essential for healthy living, sanitation and a better quality of life.
She said the solar powered facility would provide a more dependable source for residents of Ubaha and neighbouring communities, while reducing the daily challenges associated with accessing the essential resource.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has arrested a 24-year-old man for alleged vandalism and theft of equipment from an MTN telecommunications mast in Awka.
The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, disclosed this on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the NSCDC State Headquarters in Awka.
According to him, the suspect, identified as Nweke Friday Wisdom from Izzi South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was arrested at Esther Obiakor Estate, Agu-Awka, following a distress call reporting the presence of a suspected vandal at the telecommunications mast.
Olatunde said the suspect was apprehended with items allegedly removed from the mast installation, including DC and armoured cables.
The NSCDC spokesperson, SC Okadigbo Edwin, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly specialised in vandalising telecommunications masts and stealing valuable equipment.
He said the suspect had made useful confessions and would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the state, warning vandals to desist from such acts or face the full consequences of the law.
# The Special Project Director, Project Evaluation, Monitoring and Supervision Unit of the Anambra State Government, Prof. Ebuka Nwankwo, FNSE, has assessed the ongoing drainage works along the Umunze Roundabout–Timber Junction Road and confirmed that the gutters meet the required quality and construction standards.
Prof. Nwankwo made the assessment when he joined the Mayor of Orumba South Local Government Area, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, on an on-the-spot inspection of the project following the recent collapse of portions of the ongoing gutter construction along Bank Road, Umunze.
The incident had generated reactions on social media, with concerns raised over the quality of the ongoing work.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the project, testing the quality of the materials and examining the nature of the drainage construction, Prof. Nwankwo explained that the affected portions were largely due to the impact of heavy rainfall.
He noted that the gutters were only about few days old and had not been fully compacted before the heavy downpour occurred, resulting in the failure of some portions.
Prof. Nwankwo further commended the Mayor, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, for his developmental efforts across Orumba South, urging residents to avoid exaggerating issues or using isolated incidents to discredit ongoing government projects.
He called on Ndi Orumba South to support the Mayor in his efforts to improve infrastructure and make the local government more liveable.
In his remarks, Mayor Azubuike assured Ndi Orumba South of his continued commitment to delivering more development projects and critical infrastructure across the local government.

# The Iyom Enugwu-Agidi Welfare Association (IEWA) has distributed educational materials to primary and secondary schools in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The initiative, implemented through the Iyom Enugwu-Agidi Book Project, was unveiled at the field of Community Secondary School, Enugwu-Agidi, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of economic hardship on families and support effective learning.
Representing the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, at the event, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Hon. Oby Chiegboka, commended IEWA for supporting schools and contributing to the educational development of children in the community.
Dr. Ogugua described the gesture as more than a donation of books, saying it represented knowledge, hope and opportunities for the younger generation.
He said education remained a major priority of the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, stressing that no child should be disadvantaged in school because of a lack of learning materials.

# A Methodist Reverend Presbyter, Anomnachi Ogwo of St. John’s Methodist Church, Odume, Obosi, has urged Christians to commit their days, months, lives and businesses into the hands of God through prayer.
Presbyter Ogwo made the call during the church’s first-day-of-the-month prayer service, where members offered prayers for divine guidance, protection and blessings throughout the new month.
He described it as a wonderful thing to begin each day with prayer, saying that committing one’s activities to God helps believers seek His guidance and direction.

The cleric noted that dedicating about an hour each day to praising, worshipping and praying to God is a worthy sacrifice, considering the blessings and protection believers receive from Him.
# Agbiligba Village in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, has rewarded winners of its annual yam competition with motorcycles, wheelbarrows and head pans.
The prizes were presented during the annual village’s New Yam Festival held at Primary School Field, Agbiligba Nanka.
Mr Okechukwu Obiagwu emerged overall winner with a yam weighing 91.1kg, while Mr Romanus Okoye, with 69.2kg, and Mr John Nwankwor, with 49.2kg, came second and third respectively.
Presenting the first-place prize, Orumba North and South House of Representatives aspirant under the NDC, and the son of the soil, Chief Dr. Okwudili Ezenwankwo commended the farmers for their hard work and wished them continued bumper harvests, assuring them that the prize would, in due time, be upgraded.
# The Anambra State Ministry of Environment has announced a statewide sanitation and clean-up exercise scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, to commemorate World and National Clean-Up Day.
The exercise is aimed at promoting a clean, healthy and sustainable environment across the state, while encouraging residents to take responsibility for the cleanliness of their homes and surroundings.
In a public notice signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, the ministry urged residents, businesses, markets, institutions and other stakeholders to participate actively in the exercise.
The ministry directed business premises, streets and markets to carry out clean-up and waste evacuation activities on Friday, October 2, ahead of the statewide exercise on Saturday.
It further announced that movement would be restricted across the state from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, except for persons engaged in essential services.
Market leaders and business owners were urged to take note of the directive and ensure proper coordination of the clean-up exercise within their respective premises and markets.
Residents, community leaders, institutions and other stakeholders were also encouraged to clean their surroundings, dispose of waste properly and cooperate with environmental officers and community sanitation teams.
The ministry called for collective responsibility and cooperation to ensure a successful and impactful exercise, stressing the importance of maintaining a clean and environmentally friendly state.
Dr. Aguiyi urged residents and relevant stakeholders to work together to keep Anambra clean, healthy and sustainable, in line with the state’s environmental objectives.
