NSCDC Reaffirms Commitment To Safe Schools In Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Anambra State Command, has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting schools and promoting moral rebirth among students across the state.

The State Commandant, Maku Olatunde, represented by the Safe School Coordinator, Superintendent of Corps Afunanya Nneka Chibugo, made this known at the 12th Annual Chaplain Corps Policing Explorers (CHAPOL)/Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) Conference held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.

The conference attracted participants from over 274 public and selected private secondary schools across Anambra State, with a focus on promoting discipline, patriotism and civic responsibility among students.

Delivering a lecture titled, “The Limiting Power of Examination Malpractice to the Moral and Mental Development of Students and the Heavy Price Society Pays as a Result,” SC Afunanya described examination malpractice as a major threat to academic integrity, youth development and national progress.

She stressed that success could only be achieved sustainably through hard work, integrity and discipline, warning that examination malpractice undermines the future of students and the nation’s development.

“There is no shortcut to success. Hard work, integrity and discipline remain the only sustainable path to greatness. When we cheat in exams, we cheat our future and mortgage the destiny of our nation,” she said.

Afunanya urged teachers, parents, religious leaders and community members to collaborate with security agencies to tackle examination malpractice and other social vices threatening the moral development of students.

She explained that the presentation aligned with the NSCDC’s mandate under the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Initiative, which empowers the Corps to protect schools and host communities against violence and other threats to a secure learning environment.

The coordinator assured participants that the Anambra State Command, under Commandant Olatunde’s leadership, would sustain its collaboration with CHAPOL, PPSSC and other stakeholders to ensure that schools across the state remain safe, secure and morally upright.

Among the dignitaries at the conference were the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake; the member representing Awka North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prof. Oby Lilian Orogbu; the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua; and the PPSSC Secretary, Hon. Lady Benedine Anagor, alongside other stakeholders in the education sector.

The conference concluded with an interactive session during which students pledged to uphold integrity and serve as ambassadors of good conduct in their schools and communities.
