ASHIA Reviews Progress In Healthcare Access For Vulnerable Groups

The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has reviewed progress in extending health insurance coverage and improving access to quality healthcare services for vulnerable populations, including tuberculosis (TB) patients and people living with HIV (PLHIV).

The review followed the successful completion of a five-day Integrated Mentorship Supervision Visit by the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Buruli Ulcer Control Programme (NTBLCP).

During the visit, the National Supervision Team met with the Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr. Augustine Ezeka, and the agency’s management to assess programme implementation, evaluate performance and identify areas requiring improvement.

The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) under the Global Fund Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (GF-RSSH) Grant.

Discussions focused on beneficiary enrolment, healthcare service utilisation, data management and strategies to strengthen the delivery of Global Fund-supported health insurance services to TB patients and PLHIV.

The engagement also provided an opportunity for technical knowledge sharing and an assessment of progress in extending health insurance coverage to the targeted populations.

Participants examined areas requiring better coordination to ensure beneficiaries have access to affordable, accessible and quality healthcare services.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Ezeka reaffirmed ASHIA’s commitment to improving programme implementation, strengthening accountability and expanding health insurance coverage across Anambra State.

He said the visit was aimed at enhancing access to affordable and quality healthcare for vulnerable populations.

The successful completion of the supervision exercise highlights the importance of collaboration between state and national health institutions in strengthening healthcare delivery and ensuring that vulnerable groups are not left behind in efforts to achieve universal health coverage. Ok
