Four Dead, One Injured In Fatal Crash Along Awka-Enugu Expressway

Four male adults have been confirmed dead, while another sustained injuries in a fatal road traffic crash involving a Toyota Camry along the Awka–Enugu Expressway, opposite the Old Government House, Awka, in the early hours of Monday, November 2, 2026.

The crash, which occurred involved a white Toyota Camry with registration number ASB 264 AV and five male occupants.

Preliminary reports by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, indicated that the vehicle was allegedly travelling at excessive speed when it veered off the road into a nearby drainage, hit a culvert and somersaulted.

In a statement issued by the FRSC spokesperson, SRC Margaret Onabe, the four victims died from injuries sustained in the crash, while the fifth occupant sustained injuries and was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.

Onabe explained that before the arrival of the FRSC rescue team, the victims had reportedly been evacuated to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, where three of them were confirmed dead and their remains deposited in the mortuary.

She added that the fourth victim was subsequently taken to Apex Hospital, Awka, where he was also confirmed dead.

According to the statement, the accidented vehicle was recovered and towed to the FRSC Command, while personal belongings, including ₦185,300 in cash and a car key holder, were recovered.

The Sector Command expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured survivor a speedy recovery.

Reacting to the incident, the Anambra State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, described the crash as unfortunate and cautioned motorists against excessive speeding, particularly during the early hours of the morning when visibility may be significantly reduced.

She urged drivers to obey speed limits, maintain proper control of their vehicles and ensure that functional safety devices, including approved speed-limiting devices, are installed in their vehicles.

The FRSC further warned that excessive speeding reduces drivers’ reaction time and increases the severity of road traffic crashes, urging all motorists and other road users to prioritize safety and exercise maximum caution while travelling.
