Anambra Assembly: Speaker clashes with Majority leader over letter of APGA caucus on leadership role of Chief whip

~ A Call on Obiano to take pro – active measure in the control of gully erosion in Awka North.

In Anambra State house of Assembly plenary on Thursday, after an opening prayer by the honorable speaker Uche Okafor, he welcome everyone present and also acknowledge the presence of the UNN Student Union Government SUG vice president team.

The majority leader Hon. Godwin Nnamdi Okafor called the attention of the speaker on a letter sent to his office which was yet to be read, a letter over the stand of the APGA caucus on the Chief whip position, dated 7th December 2021.

In response to this, the honorable speaker Uche Okafor mentioned that the reason for delaying the reading of the letter was because he received a counter letter. He said that the letter advised that what ever was agreed on was agreed by APGA members and APGA members said they did not have any meeting of such, which agreed on the content of the letter.

He stressed that he called the majority leader and ask if they did have a meeting regarding the stand of the letter on the Chief whip position of APGA and the majority leader claimed that he called all APGA members on phone and they agreed on the chief whip position but members said that they did not receive any phone call from the majority leader.

He opined that he can not present a position of a party where members are not fully involved in the agreement. The speaker Uche Okafor put an end to the issue until the house is convinced that APGA members are fully involved in the agreement of the position of Chief whip according to the letter.

The majority leader Godwin Nnamdi Okafor left in furry before the end of the plenary because he tried to talk but the honorable speaker Uche Okafor did not permit him.

The speaker later instruct all APGA caucus to his office for a brief discussion.

Meanwhile Hon. Nwokoye John member representing Awka North constituency moves a motion that Anambra Assembly should call on his Excellency Chief Willie Obiano the governor of Anambra State to direct the honorable commissioner for works and environment to as a matter of urgency take pro – active measures to control the gully erosion at the boundary of Igbariam – Achalla road, leading to Awka north Secretariat Achalla.

He lamented that the said road is the only accessible route to Achalla community and thus pose a threat to the community if eventually the road is cut off.

He was concerned that movement of farm produce and vehicle will be affected and it might trigger social vice’s if business is affected in the area.

He also stated that the primary function of the government is to provide road infrastructure for it citizens.

Hon Ezeudu Lawrence C. Pointed out that the motion moved by the Awka North representative Nwokoye John is an SOS ( save our soul ) because if nothing is done in 60days time there will be disaster when is raining season.

He opined that he is quite aware that there will be change of power in 40days time but the governor still posses the power till the last day to kick the ball of this matter of urgency.

Several honorable members supports the motion and the Anambra house of assembly resolved that the Anambra state house of assembly calls on his Excellency Chief Willie Obiano the executive governor of Anambra State to direct the honorable commissioner for works and the honorable commissioner for environment to as a matter of urgency take pro – active measures to control the gully erosion at the boundary of Igbariam – Achalla road, leading to Awka north Secretariat Achalla.

Hon. Emeka Aforka member representing Orumba North constituency moved a motion that the plenary be adjourned to Tuesday the 22nd day of February 2022 and Hon. Ejike Okechukwu member representing Aniocha 2 constituency seconded the motion
