The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, on Friday said the welfare of soldiers was paramount to encouraging effective service to the nation.

Yahaya stated this during the inauguration of the Regimental Sergeant-Major’s house at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering in Makurdi.

He declared that he desired to provide a befitting accommodation for RSMs in all the barracks across the country.

The Army chief declared that the RSM rank remained the highest office soldiers could attain in a unit.

He said, “As you can see, all the needed facilities, including generator and water, were provided. It is to encourage our soldiers to be hardworking so that they can attain the enviable rank of RSM.

In his welcome address, the Commandant of NASME, Major-General J D Omali commended the Chief of Army Staff for providing better welfare for soldiers in the country.

The Commandant said, “The construction and furnishing of RSM houses across the NA formations and units are part of the COAS Administrative Pillar of Command which centers on the welfare of soldiers, as it engenders the right attitude and frame of mind that are essential for operational effectiveness.

“To emphasize this, the edifice being commissioned today was constructed within three months with high-quality materials that will stand the test of time.
