Anambra state is saving over a billion naira monthly

Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources has commenced the phase one convertion of street lights in Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi from diesel to solar for power generation.

Commissioner for power and water resources Engr. Julius Chukwuemeka while speaking at the Anambra state budget defense today November 29 2022, informed the assembly house committee on public utilities that the conversion of the existing diesel power streetlights to solar has saved alot of finance.

According to the words of the commissioner, “the cost of fueling the diesel powered streetlight was in hundreds of millions before this administration came in and the price of diesel was 250 naira per litter but now it is 850 naira. What it means is that the state is saving over a billion naira monthly for ndi-Anambra which will be converted to a better use.

“The use of diesel is one of the major causes of global warming but the advantage of using solar is that it is being handled by nature. Once the weather gets dark, it turns on automaticaly which means, it will no longer be the case of people putting on the generator anytime they want. It has also saved the case of vandalism. The recovery process of the generators is still on-going after which the state will take decision on what to do with them.

“We have started giving the people what Governor Chukwuma Soludo promised ndi-Anambra. The water supply master plan will commence next year 2022. Anywhere, people can through the geological map, which will help them access the issues of water supply across the state.
