* College of Nursing Sciences, Saint Charles’ Borromew Specialist Hospital, Onitsha, has held its maiden convocation for sets 2017, 2018 and 2019 graduands at the college convocation ground. In a sermon during a Holy Mass to commemorate the event, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, said that the aim of building the institution was to train nurses that will be of finest quality and sought after worldwide, expressing joy that the graduands scored one hundred percent in their Nursing and Midwifery Council Examinations which according to him, was a testimony of hard work.
* The member representing Njikoka 2 Constituency at the Anambra state House of Assembly Hon. Pete Ibida says the sit at home which is been observed every Monday in the South East zone of Nigeria has be been over stretched. The Anambra Chief Whip while while speaking with ANN in an exclusive interview in his hometown Nimo stated that from the inception of the sit at home, members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) meant well but I never thought in my life that it will stretch till dis time.
* Anambra State Government, through the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning has organized a one-day workshop on social protection policy. The seminar which was declared open in Awka by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ms. Chiamaka Nnake had participants drawn from different ministries and agencies as well as media practitioners. Speaking on the aim of the workshop, Ms. Nnake noted that it was to study and adopt the national policy and framework on social protection in the state, as it would go a long way to ensure that every onye Anambra is living comfortably and above poverty line when it is carefully analyzed and implemented.
* The Former House of Representatives member representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, has faulted governor Charles Soludo’s exclusion of representatives from the main oil producing communities in the proposed Anambra State Oil and Gas Development Committee. He described Soludo’s exclusion of representatives from Ogbaru in the proposed Anambra State Oil and Gas Development Committee as “unfair and unlawful exclusion” According to Ogene , the main oil producing communities in the state are Ogwuaniocha and Ogwuikpele, both are in Ogbaru Local Government Area and nobody is to represent them .
* The Bishop on the Niger, the Right Reverend Owen Nwokolo has ordained eight new priests and charged them to bring more souls to Christ. During the advent ordination which took place at the Basilica of St. Andrew, Onitsha, and attracted people from far and near, Bishop Nwokolo expressed joy that more labourers have been added to work in the Lord’s vineyard and urged the newly ordained priests to be faithful and trustworthy.
* The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Anambra State Chapter has commended the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Obinabo, for the swift rescue of a thirteen year old mother, who was seen in a viral video clutching a baby said to be hers.
The State Chairperson of NAWOJ, Mrs. Franklyn Onyekachi, who gave the commendation in a statement in Awka, described the act of impregnating and abandoning the child as disgusting and abominable.
* The National Coordinator of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Media Warriors Forum, Chinedu Obigwe, has warned Chief Edozie Njoku to desist from claiming National Chairman of the party or end up in jail.
Obigwe’s warning followed a statement attributed to Njoku titled : “APGA issues strong warning to Governor Soludo over plans to convene illegal stakeholders meeting.”
Reacting to the development, Obigwe said, “My reaction to the above referred news report is that the impostor Edozie Njoku that came out from Kuje Prison few days ago is a joker.
* As the importance of education cannot be over emphasized and any effort to improve learning and conducive atmosphere for students to gain a brighter future is considered paramount, the Amalgamated Estates 3-3 Community Association, Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi Council Area has organised a fifty-million-naira fund raising to build a Secondary School and a Community Hall in the area. The event also featured investiture of patrons and presentations of award of honours to different personalities who have in one way or the other contributed to the growth and development of the area.
