As the 2023 general election draws near, Polling Unit Ambassadors of Nigeria (PUAN) Thursday 15th December 2022 took the message against vote buying to the Anambra state house of assembly.
Addressing the Anambra speaker and other lawmakers, the group through it’s spokesperson said the suffering of the less privileged seems perpetual and scary as if the time for a revolutionary has come and that the initiative of PUAN is to collaborate with other democratic institution to deliver a lawful and transparent democratic process.

“PUAN strongly believes the set time has come for the new breed to conquer greed, ignorance, apathy and self-centredness and drive home with greatness in the mind of all Nigerians. By so doing, usher in quality leadership with high sense integrity, accountability economic empowerment for all citizens in Nigeria. The actual journey for unstoppable greatness begins with PUAN.

“Our mission is to robustly put in spotlight the power of an eligible voter (with PVC) for a premeditated twenty (20) year master plan; to educate, mobilize, support and advocate for the emergence of responsible and accountable leadership in Nigeria through credible, free and fair election.

“Our vision is to drive the emergence of political process of our shared dreams where the rule of law will be respected, Constitutional rights of citizens would be guaranteed and credible/accountableÂ
democratic leadership becomes the norm and culture that must be hungered for, pursued and achieved in Nigeria.Â
“We need more genuine volunteers because the founders of PAUN are ordinary concerned Nigerians, who saw the need to parmer withÂ
other like minds to bring about a desired leadership recruitment system that will be of benefit to all citizens.Â
“PUAN is duly registered and seeks to lawfully encourage more volunteers to enhance itsÂ
membership. It’s a non partisan initiative willing to collaborate with well meaningÂ
Nigerians across the globe to join hands together and make wilful contributions that will boost its finances, in order to take care of her numerous needs, such as, logistics and office structures nationwide. This will inspire independence, institutionalise anti — corruption practices and promote a sustenance culture to protect both initiative and members from being hijacked by powerful political leaders.
“PAUN does not want to be involved in any form of abuse of position of authority and breach of trust or any kind violation of a legal or set rules in the conduct of it’s activities.
Responding, Anambra Speaker Rt Hon. Uche Okafor commended PUAN for preaching against vote buying in the coming 2023 election.

“This are the type of things we need to let our people know. Nigeria belongs to you and i and for the country to be good, its in our hands. Let us shun vote buying so that we will elect credible people into power. If voters stop collecting money from politicians, officer holders will have a re-think of their attitude and things will definitely be well. I want to thank and encourage you all because it is not easy for people to volunteer there time and resources, moving around and sensitising people. Keep it up.

“PUAN is a national association and has been in Anambra since 2018 and have been going to markets, churches and other gatherings educating people on the need to get there Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and also shun vote buying during election.Â
“This enlightenment has also been done in Abuja and in the national assembly. We are out to make sure that fairness and equity becomes the order of the day during election. We are here to expose the mayhem behind vote buying and selling because we are the cause of our problem. We need to follow the electoral duo process. our votes shouldn’t be sold.
