* With the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deadline just a little over two weeks away, and with the general elections around the corner, The Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo has asked Ndi Anambra who took part in the last voter registration exercise to follow up on the ongoing Permanent Voter Cards collection ahead of the January 22 deadline.

The governor’s wife who stated this in Awka while reacting to the current poor turn out of registered voters waiting to pick up their PVCs at designated INEC collection offices in Anambra State, implored residents of the state who are yet to collect theirs to see the exercise as their civic responsibility.

* The former Governor of Kano State and Presidential Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso 

says that they have been able to take the NNPP structure round the federation. Alhaji Kwankwaso who was accompanied by some of his key officers including Engineer Buba Galadima, visited Governor Soludo at his Lodge in Amawbia. He explained that they decided to pay courtesy call on the Governor, expressing optimism that the visit will further strengthen the existing cordial relationship between himself and Governor Soludo as well as the states of Kano and Anambra.

*The Archbishop of the Niger Province, Most Reverend Dr Alexander Ibezim, has dedicated an ultra-modern Saint Michael and All Angels Anglican Church Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area, financed by an Anglican Priest, who preferred to remain anonymous. In a sermon to mark the occasion, Archbishop Ibezim, who drew his sermon from the book of Matthew, charged Christians to emulate the biblical Canaanite woman this 2023. He made it clear that prayers without faith are ineffective, pointing out that sowing seed with faith had continued to take him to higher heights.

* In line with his accountability principle and in continuation of his grassroots consultation, the Senator representing Anambra South and Candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2023 Anambra South Senatorial Election Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah on Thursday, met with the stakeholders of Ndiakwu Otolo Nnewi (Ndị Nnayaochie) in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State to brief them on his legislative activities and also to deliberate on matters that will boost the development of the community. Addressing the stakeholders who gathered at the residence of Chief Nonso Ukatu (Nosec), Senator Ubah appreciated his ndị Nnaochie for their prayers and continuous support. He also informed them that his activities over the past four years in the Senate are all engineered towards human capital and community development, as well as promoting peace and security in various Wards of his Senatorial District.  

 

* Mr Sly Onyima of Umuobia Village Umuoji have been sworn in for the second time as President General of Umuoji Improvement Union Of Nigeria. Mr Onyima and some members of the executive had earlier been returned unopposed to pilot the affairs of the community for the next three years. Mr Onyima was first elected as President General of Umuoji in 2022. The swearing in ceremony which took place at Umuoji Civic Center, Idemili North Council Area, attracted the Regent of the community, Chief Christopher Nnedu, Ndi Igwe in council, women and youth wings of the town Union among others .

* The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Senatoral Candidate for Anambra North, Chief Dr. (Mrs) Ebelechukwu Obiano (Osodieme) in the presence of ndi Ichie Ogbunike, Oyi LGA, receives blessings and endorsement of Umu Ada Ogbunike on her aspiration to represent the good people of Anambra North at the Senate. Osodieme, the former first lady of Anambra state assured them of quality representation if voted into the red chambers in the fourth coming general election.

* Dr Chinweze Ezeanwu from Agbolagbo Village Nsugbe, Anambra East Council Area have been elected the President General of Nsugbe Development Union. Dr Ezeanwu polled 55 votes to defeat his opponent, Mr Ikechukwu Nwalunor who got 29 votes. The election which was conducted through secret balloting held at Community Primary School, Ugwu-Oyibo, Nsugbe. Five delegates each represented the nineteen branches of Nsugbe Development Union.

* Winners have emerged from the second edition of a raffle draw organized by Nwaguatahihia Motors Limited USA in collaboration with Lion and Lioness Empowerment Club and Nnewi Diamond Brothers. The event took place at the residence of the Chief Executive Officer, Nwaguatahihia Motors, Umudim Nnewi. The raffle draw, aimed at lifting Nigerians out of poverty irrespective of religion, culture and tribe, saw the first winner, Mr. Amaobichukwu Alini from Ebonyi State, go home with a Toyota RAV4, 2010 model, followed by Reverend Onyekachukwu Obilo from Imo State, who also went home with a Toyota Spider, model 2010, while the third person, Mr. Ifeanyi Ele from Abia State, left with Toyota Camry, 2006 model.

 

* An end has finally come for the water challenges faced by teachers and students of Boys’ Secondary School, Igboukwu, as the Candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA for next month’s Aguata Federal Constituency Seat election, Engr Dom Okafor has handed over a completed water harvesting/ reticulation project to the school. The project is a 3000-litre steel overhead water tank, reticulated round the school so that water can be available at the offices. It also has a one-horse power surface water pump.

* Trading of votes during elections has been explained to be the most cause to Nigeria’s dwindling democracy, because it prevents the electorates from electing into offices credible candidates with vision of transformation. The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate for Oyi/Ayamelum Federal Constituency in February election, Dr. Amaechi Nwachukwu made this known today in Awka, during a one-hour live radio interactive program in ABS. Dr. Nwachukwu emphasized that many democracy proponents believe that if an election is free, it means that all those entitled to vote are rightly registered and are totally free to make their choice of candidate without imposition or inducement which he said cannot be said of elections in the country, where the inducement of voters by parties and politicians has somewhat become the order of the day.

* Ahead of the 2023 general election, the Apga flag bearer for Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha federal constituency election, Hon Pete Ibida, paid homage to prince Olisa Eze (Excellency) in his country home Ukpo in Dunukofia local government. The visit was to officially inform him and equally solicits for his support ahead of 2023 election. Prince Olisa Eze, Excellency is a Nigerian entrepreneur, investor and the CEO of Excellence Hope Initiative (EHI). Prince Olisa has through the foundation touched several lives positively across the world.

* The re-election bid of the Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Uche Ekwunife, PhD, received a massive boost today, as the 4 political wards in Enugwu-Ukwu community threw their weight behind her ambition to return to the Senate. In an event held shortly after a rally voluntarily organized by community stakeholders and supporters of the PDP Senatorial Candidate to show solidarity and support to the Senator, Ekwunife was received with pomp and pageantry, in a manner akin to royalty.
